Saint Louis, MO area is the best in my opinion
-
I think it is a mistake to think there is a "best". I could sit here and name off a list of good reasons to justify maybe as many as 20 urban areas to work. I also could come up with a list of reasons why those same places are bad. I keep saying this a lot, there are very few "one size fits all" answers to these questions. Taxes are import, but not all of the equation. What about your spouse? Can they also find work? What about schools for little Johnny? Are you also trying to further your education?
I HIGHLY recommend before choosing a place to work out of you to do some self-analysis! What do you need and what is important to YOU! List these things! Then go find the best fit. For me? Most of my driving career I drove out of Atlanta. I also drove out of Spartanburg SC as well as Charlotte NC. I have spoken to many drivers over the years that hated Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Memphis, Indy, KC, Phoenix, Denver and All down the US Gulf Coast. I also have spoken to drivers that loved those same places.
I am not picking on @Chinatown or @Ridgeline or any other person that comments on these boards. Chinatown or Ridgeline could sit and write glowing reports of places all over the country. Then you could follow their opinion, move there and grow to hate it. This is because they are giving their opinions, what is right for them might not necessarily be right for you.
Please don't mistake my words as saying these types of questions are not good. They are absolutely good! I have learned things about places I never knew by reading about them. My words simply are saying ONLY you can know what is fully best for YOU and your family. -
My answers were driven by freight.
Now if I wanted to pick a place for myself? That would be totally different. As in extreme quiet. I don't even want to hear the neighbors kids cutting up with ATV's or whatever. Not that it bothers me. Our previous place was quiet and you on some days could almost tune into the wildlife activity as they go about their routine. Unless the birds start screaming at the feeder or some such disruption. Or dead silence when the one red shoulder hawk shows up around april.
Growing up in the city is a world of noise. But when get far enough away in the USA in various areas and stay a while waiting on freight you get to like the spot.
