I live in Jax, and have been looking very hard into being a driver for about four months. I have talked to the recruiter for Roadmaster and they couldnt help me. They wanted 1500 dollars plus a noncontractural agreement to work for a company for "2 plus years". I neither had the money or the credit or a cosigner, strike three and I was out the door. Wasn't found of the idea of being tied to a company for 2 plus years anyways.
So I did some more research, and came up with driversolutions that will pull $45.00 a paycheck for a year into an account, then at the end of the year pay off my fees. That will pay my end of my obligation to P.A.M. Transport out of Jax. And, only a year tied to them. Two weeks out and weekend home (supposidly). I will attend school in Ark for three weeks, with a $300.00 compinsation while at school, which will be paid in intervals. And, I believe P.A.M. also has $1000.00 sign on bonus. I need to verify that yet. You will be placed in an apartment for the three weeks with a roommate. But does have a kitchen.
I am actually here on the boards to see if Driver Solutions has any negativity. I am sure it does, but at what % to compared to others. Same goes with P.A.M. Transport out of Jacksonville.
So far I have not found anything on either, but I am still searching.
I have not decided if I am driving or taking a bus. If you think you might be interested let me know and we could try going togather. Either by pooling by truck or by bus. I am trying to get my school start date to be on Sept 17th.
Best Companies by State? How about FL?

Check tomorrow with Maverick Tranportation they hire in Jax and their a good company look up a board member here that goes by Notarps4me he works for them and will tell you more, it's not to late to change your mind. If I lived in Jax that's who I would go to. Nice trucks also, mostly new and Automatics all of them. -
Well I did my homework, and yes they are far better than Driver Solutions companies. Even though they do run flatbeds and you would be doing tarping. That didnt bother me though, just means more money in my pocket. The real problem I found out is they are back logged for school at least a year.I really wanted to go with them, but I do not have a year to wait. So later today I will be giving Driver Solutions a call and confirm going to school. They called yesterday and said I had been approved for P.A.M. Transport, which is supposidly the only one doing any hiring in this area. So either this weekend or next weekend I am off too school. A paycheck is better than no paycheck at the moment.
I am putting them in my favorites for now, and after I get my year in with P.A.M. and if things are not looking better I will try and go with Maverick. -
Good luck and I do wish you all the luck in the world. Let us know how things go with them.
Safe trucking fellow Floridian. -
Jax is not one of the better locations to find a trucking job. At least from my experience. I am in between jobs right now and it's slim pickins in the J-ville area. I am looking but I also know I must be prepared to go out of state to find a job that suits me and the way I like to run. The upper norhwest is a great area to work and there seems to be plenty of it. Only catch is you must be willing to run in weather and mountains. My favorite.

Iwas running with a driver that drives for Raven out of jJacksonville,he said he loved working there and has 24 ys driving trucks, its his best job yet, think he said he gets 44 cts per mile and treated really nice there. Also had a younger driver with us with 1.5 yrs ex.,he was starving at Werner at 27 cts a mile. The other driver said he might need 2 yrs ex for raven, but I suggested Roehl and let them both know about this forum. Also in maine on my way home, met a driver with 2o ys ex,he has worked for Mccanes for 18 yrs, works hard but likes the exercise he gets unloading and made 70000 last year.Food service is work but ussually pay good. Just thought I would throw that info in,in case someone wants to check it out.

If you would follow politics and know your republican party.
You would know that the only U.S. Senators who did'nt go with with the ruling of dropping the NAFTA AGreement for federal funding for Hwys and the Mexican Pilot Program, were 22 Republican senators.
Mostly the Southern and midwestern states, the othe 70 some Senators dont want this to happen.
So please change it to the republican flag.
This list was in OIDA, to me it made sense, republicans want corperations to get rich, thats why it was only republicans who voted against this, Bush will veto, im sure!
Just though you shouldHave a good day!

Hey how did your Florida Trucking Company search go? I'm just starting the CDL school thing and I live in West Palm Beach. Will be going to National in Jax. I've called several companies and they mostly say; nope I'm too far South. Only SRT and LCT Transport have shown any interest to date. Any suggestions for smaller companies taking on newbies in Florida? Most of the bigger guys like Swift, Werner, CR England take a lot of hits on these threads.
Any suggestions will be welcomed.
Cheers, -
Allen Freight is out of Jacksonville. It's a division of PAM Transportation. I don't know anyone who drives for AFS...but I know two people who have driven for PAM and my cousin drives for Decker (another PAM division) and they all liked it fairly well. PAM is more of an entry level company, and I don't know if AFS is or not. Remeber ENTRY LEVEL COMPANY...take it for what it is.
