I think a lease purchase with swift is crazy i tried to get a recruiter to explain to me how you could make money with that high of a truck payment and all the deductions for a solo driver to make money and he couldnt im in a new lease with us xpress with with a 90 day walkaway i pay 650 a week and fuel and no other deductions all is paid by them tolls and all my first week i made 1200 with a little over 2800 miles i went thru a lot of companies tryin to some me how to make money with 10 to 15 deductions each week this is the only 1 i have found with a 90 day trial and a walk away after 90 days if you feel you cant do it. But ill post some more later after i have some time in here and see what its like after a couple of months. Good luck guys and happy trucking to all

I am sorry, but $1200 on 2800 miles is okay pay for a company driver. If you think that is good for an o/op, you are wrong. As a Lease op you take on the same risk as an o/op so you should make better money.

I love the fact that lease ops think they are a business owner :biggrin_25523:

When I go rent a car does that make me a business owner too?? A lease puts all the risk on the driver so the business owner, the company renting you the truck has far less risk.

well lets see i can claim all my lease payments on taxes plus i get to claim all the maintenance i have a 3 yr 300,000 mile engine and drive train warrantyoh and i get to claim those lease payments all 3 years i pay no tolls no base plate no fuels taxes. and at the end of 3 years its mine to do with as i please. But with half the hassles of a o/o and better taxes bene's but ur right i could make as much as a company driver and as i said i have 90 days to walk away if i dont feel i can make it and during the 90 days i have all repairs big and small paid for do you get to test drive your truck for 90 days then give it back if you dont like like it. I guess you can but theres goes the credit LOL been trucking since DEC 83 so i guess im still green and all i can say why open ur mouth if you nothing good to say about someone some people just want to try and make other feel stupid or dumb. I guess leasing cars is dumb too because most large corps do that to get the write off instead of buying and having no deductions but what the heck GUYS have a wonderful Day and Happy trucking

I love the fact that some owner operators think they no everything about trucking and are the 1st to open their mouths and try to make some people in the Trucking Industry feels like crap. LOL get a life if you are so dang successful smile make your money and quit trying to make others feel bad. Thats one of the things I hate about trucking is the no it alls who like to do this. I love trucking and thats just about all aspects of it and i still stop and try to help when i see someone broke down car or truck i carry extra parts (ie belts clamps and such) and i would gladly give you one of them if you needed it. Well have a wonderful day and Happy Trucking. A nd remember you can do something all your life and still not get it right so make sure your house is in order first. With our country in the shape its in and now 18000 people losing their jobs at Hostess all i can say is we will pray for you and hope that u can find jobs to keep you going, HAPPY TRUCKING.

I had a resturant, and I leased the building. Does that mean I didn't own the business?
My lawyer leases his office space. Does that mean he doesn't own his business?
I could go on about my doctor, dentist, and so on , but you get the point.

I am actually not an owner operator in the commonly used trucker lingo. I own a trucking company with 50 trucks. Aprox 15 of these drivers are independent contractors. I have company drivers that frequently make $1200 per week. My independent contractors make far more than this if the run 2800 miles, and they should. A company driver has no risk, except possibly low miles. An independent contractor has risks around every corner. Engine trouble, truck stop accident, cargo claim, etc. All of these will cost the contractor money. This has to be paid out of your pocket. This is why you need higher pay than a company driver. Deductions from your taxable income do not make up for this risk, you need higher income. What are you going to have at the end of three years? A truck that is worn out and not worth anything.

I am not trying to rain on your parade. I am trying to open your eyes. If you choose to continue running as a lease op for $1200 knock yourself out.
