Im.continuing to research companies but also realizing that picking a good company is more important that one that will let me take a passenger sooner than another.

I'm not sure exactly what type of freight you are looking for, but I can say that Maverick has been honest and straightforward with me. They pay well, certainly for beginning drivers, and they have multiple types of freight to choose from (temperature controlled, flatbed, glass, and some specialty freight). They work very hard to get you home when you would like to be home. Thus far, I have actually arrived home earlier than requested almost every time. They seem to take good care of their equipment and will fix issues that you bring to their attention.

I have never been called to ask me why my truck isn't moving. They seem to give us plenty of time to make appointments. In situations where it will be cutting it close, I have always been asked to evaluate it to see whether I can make it work within the guidelines, and if not, to provide a best guess ETA so that they can reschedule the appointment. Based on some things I have read here and heard elsewhere, there are some starter companies that constantly push you. I have never been made to feel that way by Maverick.

There are drivers who have been here for decades. There are many others that start here and move on. No company is going to be perfect, but I am just trying to convey that my experience with Maverick has been a positive one.

    Good luck!

I would like to consider maverick but I believe they only have flatbed on my area and I don't believe I'm fit enough for flatbed.

Maverick is up there on my list. But I really don't know how a typical week as a flatbedder is like. It might be the perfect fit for me, or not. You could tell me I'd need to enjoy tarping, but I've never even seen how this is done. I know the whole 2-strap minimum/ at least one strap for every ten feet rule from my permit studying, but how can I know if I wouldn't mind doing that? YouTube videos?

I think I read something on here recently about Freymiller using inward facing cameras now. To me that's a dealbreaker especially if I'm in the truck with my wife. I don't care if they "only record when an accident happens."

I have an app with freymiller and also with Magnum. At this point I'm leaning toward Magnum.

Honestly, there are many things about this career (trucking in general) that a person will have to experience first hand in order to know whether or not they will enjoy it. (As a side note, this is why I try to avoid being critical of individuals who try it and then don't make it very long.) In reality, you simply don't know what you don't know. Only when you are out on the road doing the work will you learn what you like or dislike and can or cannot tolerate.

As far as flatbed or other types of open deck freight, some people love it and others seem to loathe it. Personally, there are some things about it that I really enjoy, but I tolerate other things that I don't enjoy very much. In my opinion, tarping is like many other things in life: it gets easier the more you do it. When I first started, I quit a hundred times in my head while wrestling with tarps. However, once I developed a system and became more adept, then it was less of an issue. I haul glass, so most of our tarping and untarping must be done indoors. (The glass division does occasionally haul lumber, steel or other general freight but the vast majority of our tarping is indoors.)

"How can I know if I wouldn't mind doing that?" My response to that is this: regardless of what type of freight you may be interested in, find a good company and give it a shot. Stick with it long enough to gauge whether or not you enjoy it. You are much more likely to be frustrated and discouraged the first few times you try something new and challenging, so in my opinion you should stick with it long enough to develop some level of proficiency and then make your decision. Only you will know whether you enjoy it, and regardless of what anyone may tell you about their experience, your experience may vary. If it doesn't work for you, then find something that does. Good luck in your journey!

Rbgtag congrats on your career change.
I don't want to throw a blanket on your party. You should concentrate on finding a good company and learn to" master the beast" because she will hurt you.
I'm just saying as a new driver you will have your hands full
