CR England was recommended to me as being a good company that will put you through school, but I have since found out that for the first 6 months you have to team drive and I honestly don't know if I could sleep very well while a relative stranger is driving.

Are there any good companies that will put you through school and then allow you to run solo from the beginning? I mean, who would sleep well while a person they hardly know is driving?

Avoiding team training and driving were hot buttons for me also. CFI and Schneider both met my requirements and gave me pre-hires. I went with CFI because they had a pretty solid reputation and smaller/mid-sized companies seem to treat their drivers better than the really big ones. The housing, food and quality of instructors at Crowder College were great. They do teach on automatics only, which was fine with me. But, if you really want to learn on a manual and avoid any restrictions on your license, you can ask to attend Truck Dynadty for your training. The accommodations there aren’t as nice, but are perfectly acceptable, especially for only a few weeks. I recently finished my training and orientation and am waiting for my finisher, but so far, I think that I made the right choice.

Schneider and CFI are both good to get the career started. Bite the bullet and make it happen.
Both do hair follicle drug test, so you need to be clean 12 mos. to pass.
Stevens Transport and Prime Inc. both do urine drug test, so you need to be clean 90 days to pass.

    CJ701 Thanks this.

Almost all companies with schools will put you with a trainer for 4-8 weeks after school. You will either team drive with a trainer in the truck or in some cases the trainer will supervise while you drive. I also found it almost impossible to sleep in the truck while my trainer drove. I've never been more tired AND unable to sleep. My training period at my first company was 8 weeks.

Watkins & Shepard is a company that did that but they were bought by Schneider.

How did you get through the training period then being so deprived of sleep?

Are you glad now that you chose to get into trucking? Has it worked out well for you?

That's most of it, then there is the truck bouncing around while you're trying to sleep. Will the other driver drive like someone is back there sleeping or will they just hammer down without a clue/care?

Doesn't Roehl also do supervised training instead of team training?

Don’t do cr England. I used to work there. They do solo but it’s a pain to get in that lane. At 6 months while you’re waiting for a solo lane you get put to trainer. If you refuse you’re back to team with a ####ty 20 cents a mile for every mile the truck moves.
