Sorry bro... just saw this.
Some of the items aren't a thing. Like who cares if I can't put an entire automobile in a dry van. But for guys with reefers....no eggs? No poultry? No beer loads? Maybe it isn't a big deal and someone leased can chime in. But from the outside it seems like there are opportunities being left on the table.

Money on a load of whatever and then deciding not to do that ever again
the company my neighbor works for , absolute refuses to get a load through a broker .
They will deadhead hundreds and hundreds of miles before they use a broker .
saw them deadhead from Idaho to Georgia because they won’t use brokers .
They’ve gotten burned too many times using brokers and simply won’t use them ever again .chimbotano, 77fib77 and Soltaker Thank this. -

This is where I'm at as well. Started as a company driver several years ago, bought a friend's hotshot a year later ran under his authority then 1.5 years later started my company in 2020, just in time for Covid, flatbed kinda struggled for awhile. Run a 4500 with a 53' air ride stepdeck for a few regular customers and backhauls off the boards or when it's slow. Paid off equipment(finally), grossing around 200k/year and not working 24/7. About to buy a semi now, looking for a driver and whether to lease on or just run them myself. Seeing indications we're at the bottom of the market now, hoping for significant upward rate trends by March/April and can afford truck payment if can't find the RIGHT driver but not sure about leasing on. Very frugal when it comes to non essential spending so feel ok but thinking my business experience/knowledge is not where I'd like it. If I lease on, does it have to be my hotshot and semi or can it be one or other? I'll likely drive my hotshot once I find a driver for the semi (it's a little particular at 520k) and the semi will be under warranty. Love to hear your thoughts, recommendations, etc... pros/cons of companies you've leased into, etc.... thx much!

people like yourself, greedy , are perpertuating the abuse and exploitation. you want to make money in this industry? drive !
