I have 12 trucks and am trying to decide whether to go to tablets, smart phones or any other elog/communication/gps devices for my small fleet. Currently debating on getting Samsung galaxy tablets and adding elog/eobr apps. I would really appreciate any feedback on what you use and about the cost every month for data plans.
Best data plan and device pricing for going all electronic with small fleet

mine's a single line plan, not business...unlimited talk, text and 5GB of data, on an Android phone thru US Cellular...roughly $110/month.
-
-
1. do you just communicate with drivers via voice or text (cell phone)
2. do you want to commuicate with truck only (gps location)
3. do you want full communicatiion with driver and truck (gps location and driver messaging)
4. do you plan to monitor drivers routes and idle time on truck
5. do you plan on Elogs
6. do you want electronic IFTA miles (driver would not have to keep track of miles in each state)
7. what other needs (or wants) do you have
Hope this helps

sprint offers unlimited EVERYTHING for $80.
-
Make sure you talk to the carriers buisness side. As a buisness you will qualify for discounts. And not only your company phones/devices but also your employee's personal devices. For instance with sprint I get a 13 percent discount on my personal phone becouse of the company discount. And I am sure the company phones get the same if not more.

good suggestions, thanks

Sprint offers everything, but decent coverage. lol
I pay $50 for 5 gigs of data on my 4g Xoom tablet. If you were to place them with drivers, you would need some administrative blocking, otherwise a 2 hour Netflix movie in HD will eat up 2-3 gigs.
What are you looking at for EOBR on the Samsung, Xata Turnpike? Have you looked into the MCP50 by Qualcomm? -
We are not only looking at EOBR's possibly just elogs and scanning apps for our drivers. We are not wanting to put them on lock down just trying to make the business more cost efficient and save the drivers some time as well. I have sent Qualcomm a request to be contacted by sales I will ask them about the MCP50. Thank you for the suggestions.
