1976 Freightliner, KT450-13 Spd
1977 W900 400+/855-13 Spd
1984 A-car 400/855-13 Spd
1997 379 550/3406-18 Spd
1998 379 525/N-14-10 Spd
All were good setups, at least for me. The O'l KT450 was a good puller for back in that time, in Dec 1988 I pulled off in Wilkes Barre, PA to use the "pay phone" not many cell phones then, found out my wife had went into labor, seemed like the O'l KT450 WOULDN'T GO FAST ENOUGH..... The 97 Pete with the 550 Cat / 18 spd pulled like a bull and was a ringtail dandy as far as I'm concerned, and I'm not really a Cat man, I prefer the 855 and N14 Cummins. Pulled out of Carbondale, Ill pulling a 53ft beam trailer with a 45K lbs drilling rig on it with the 98 379 W/N-14, dropped a gear twice coming to WV so it was'nt to bad. I now drive a 2007 International with a twin turbo boat anchor pulling a RGN, might do better with some work but I'm far from impressed. And the 2 stroke detroits, well........Last edited: Dec 20, 2014

I’m passionate of the opposed piston engines for its simplicity robustness and how well those performed during first half of 20thC. Only a few companies like Fairbanks Morse kept on production for energy production a maritime use. In 2009 SAE advised engine designers to go through a book summarizing the history and evolution of those engines and suggesting immediate Heavy Duty applications.
WELL, seems couple of companies followed that line and currently players such as Bill Gates, the Royal Navy and the US Army are developing on OP designs.
I read on the web that CUMMINS has joined ACHATES to develop an OP Heavy Duty application for US Army. ACHATES claims to have engines ready to go, performing over 20/30% compared to traditional engines. Seems OP will be the next generation engines. -
Can't beat the motor that is my namesake. Absolutely bulletproof.
jdiesel3406 and rbrtwbstr Thank this. -
Then you should consider MACK-OP to retain the title!!!

I want to disect this post further but am not sufficently motivated to put it politely or nicely; so will leave it alone. Suffice it to say the N14 is/was NOT "primarily" an industrial or stationary engine...........and ISX engines are NOT built off the big cam block.........jeebers. -
what? nobody like the mbe4000? haha!

I would give my left nut to be able to drive an old school Mack. It is because of that truck and that engine that I am a driver today... I'm just 20 years late to the show.OP-NGN Thanks this.
