BEST FL COMPANY TO START DRIVNG FOR (NO EXP)

Having a State Approved Certificate and a current CDL is all you need to be hired as a Trainee.

 

Hired as a trainee where?. I have a certificate from truck driving school but it is 20 years old now. I am thinking that companies won't want to even look at it.

 

I went through schooling with a couple people that had old experience,one guy was hired on at our two week mark but had to complete the entire course for the certificate.

 

Thanks for this thread. Florida feels like a trucking Black hole! I have been talking with Abilene but if things don't work out I really need to find one like them. Starting with the Big Nasties doesn't seem like a viable option for me.

 

Just spoke to our lead recruiter...

Unfortunately, he said that it's actually a DOT requirement that requires a certificate from a CDL school.

One could get their CDL, as you did, without a formal school certificate but then they would need to run under their own authority.

Sounds like your best option is to go through a program to get your certificate... Either a company program or, what I prefer to suggest, is going the community college route. One can get a school loan for the cost and just pay it back after you start to work. No strings to the company that gave you "free school".

AND THEN you can come join us here at Abilene... It's worth the wait...

I learned something new today...

 

I am SO glad I avoided the "big nasties"... I took @Chinatown advice and checked into five companies that he suggested and so glad I did.

We just have to continue to spread the word that there ARE options below that mega level that are actually better companies to start with and avoid all that Mega BS.

So while I hope it works out for you here at Abilene, you can avoid the big nasties if you look around... And take input from Chinatown.

 

The truck driving school certificate doesn't expire, only your CDL. Do you have a current Class A?

Large Companies have raised the entry level-qualifications: 160 hour state approved third party certificate.

But smaller companies have lower requirements.....I know guys down in Miami who do not read or speak English that got a CDL and have been cited by DOT....and keep on driving. Its a third world down here.

Here is the twist....no company will hire a driver without experience, some require 2 years others 1 year and some 6 months in a combination vehicle. It's related to the insurance company....So there are limited options. Go through a driver mill....or pay to play. Both have strings attached. so now you have a CDL but no Certificate, and you are trying to get hired as a trainee....
