I got the itch to go O/O at the same age as OP. Sammons wanted nothing to do with me due to age, Landstar wouldn't finish processing my application, and a few other companies took issue with my age or years driving (you're going to need at least 2 years to go anywhere worthwhile). I got my own authority and truck, and when looking into insurance I was getting quoted anywhere from $12,000-$26,000 a year for cargo/general liability at the minimum amounts, with nothing but a 2 year old speeding ticket on my MVR from before I got my CDL. Many more insurance companies flat out refused to insure me at that age and experience. I ended up leasing with Farm2Fleet after talking to BigBadBill for a while, and haven't ever looked back.

Put in the rest of your first two years, and there will be a few companies that will give you a second look assuming you have at least a year of verifiable flatbed experience.

anyone here from oklahoma? ive been running my 1tons with 40ft flatbed with a company for almost 2 years now, only hauling for oilfield im wanting to get into a semi pulling a flat, im not looking to get rich quick i have a farm and family i like to see. im looking for advise on how to proceed from here im looking to clear 2k a week (which is half of what i was doing before oil prices fell) is there a company you all have delt with or have a friend that has that can make that amount without being gone all the time or is that something running under your own you can only achieve.

Can't say enuf good about Sammons! It's not hard finding your own loads. They have agents they will hook you up with as well as a load board. We pick our own, go home when we want, will never do forced dispatch again!
