I have been fond of Donaldson filters for several years. Was talking with the regional Donaldson rep for my area about 2 years ago on some other filter issues and the topic swung towards Cat filters, and he confirmed that a large percentage of the "yellow filter" Cat filters are made by Donaldson.

Made to Cat specs. cut a Cat 1R-0749 open then cut a Donaldson Fleetguard or baldwin. There is no comparison. Same goes for the oil filters 1R-1807 or 1R-0716

Now if you cut the Cat fuel/water separator apart, then it looks like it could have been made right beside other brands and just painted yellow instead of white or red.

But the engine mounted fuel filters and the Oil filters are way superior to other manufactures

    Jt20 Thanks this.

On may last oil change, they installed all red filters (Baldwin). I have always used all Yellow before that. I have noticed that I have lost about 3 to 4 oil pressure when running at operating temperature. Is this normal using Baldwin filters ?

On my Freightliner it made huge difference between Donaldson and a Wix. Wix was better. Wix was 10 micron and Donaldson was 5. I'd put Donaldson in and it would immediately climb half way up filter in the clear lid, Wix stayed low like new filter should. About .5-.75 mpg. Makes no sense why the mpg, if it wasn't starving, it shouldn't matter.
