Hey everyone, I'd like some opinion on the best gloves for the job. I've been using leather gloves, which were good, but the major downfall is that as soon as they become wet they get stiff and hard to use. Any opinions and advice would be helpful!

when you get a new pair, coat them in mink oil before you even use them for the first time. Then they do not get wet. Last pair worked for me for 6 months. Stitching gave out before the leather. Now I have some buffalo hide gloves that I am liking a lot.

I like the mechanic's style gloves now. I thought they were goofy for a long time, but get a quality pair and they are durable, you can wash them in a machine, they dry quickly, more dexterity than leather. I still keep a few pairs of cheapo Jersey's for really dirty jobs too.

Farm stores usually have a good selection of gloves.

Danny do you prefer the ones with the rubber grips on the bottom side?

Spray the leather gloves with water proof protecting, same as used for leather boots.
May have to spray them a few times and lets the stuff soak in for a few days in an air tight bag.
Air dry them out side of the truck on a warm day and should be good to go.
Have more then one pair done,
Just in case you losses a glove.

That's also a good idea, how long does that spray last after you've coated it good?

All depends on the brand name you use and how many coats of protection you spray on it and how much you use them.
General rule, if the water dose not beed, needs to be sprayed again.
If the do get wet, dry them out really good and spray them again.

"Warning , DO NOT SMOKE with the spray on the gloves, the spray is usually very flammable"

Use welding gloves for hot items.

I use horsehide gloves. They seem to be better then leather when they get wet and they are not as stiff when they dry out. I found a bunch of them brand new in package helping a buddy clean out a hoarders basement. Best gloves i have ever used.
