Call me lazy but Im not going to read through a 500 pages of info. on these units.:biggrin_25513: Im looking to purchase one of these probably from Pilot, since Ive been saving points. I travel mostly NorthEast with New York and Jersey being a big part of the equation. Lane Assist is a MUST. Im leaning towards the RM500 but not completely sold yet.

So anyone using one that they would highly suggest, PLEASE chime in.

    Thanks

I have heard that the more expenseive truckers gps units are not always the best. I have used a 69 dollar one and that did ok. I then upgraded to a garmin that had lane assist and I was very impressed with that. Do not always rely on the gps. It will send you on routes that you should not be on. Once burned, twice shy. Use the gps as one of the tools, not your only tool. also in nyc near the gwb the gps usually will try to route you on the lower level. Obviously, trucks must use the upper level of the gwb. Sometimes you must also turn the volume down because the gps is trying to reroute you to car lanes, for example NJ turnpike.

best one for north east---only points west

    i have a garmin--older one--it works pretty good--definately not foolproof
but as long as you keep your wits about you it is ok

Well I picked up a RM700 at the flyinJ on sale for 350 last night and somehow got another 40 bucks knocked off before using my points which got me down to 308 after tax. Im using it today for the first time heading to Dallas from Indiana. Thus far im impressed with all the features.but expected a.lil more from the HD screen. Doesn't appear any different from any others I've seen. But I will say that my buddies Nuvi 465 couldn't find the addresse when the RM picked it right up. Time will tell, but if anyone wants any feedback just let me know here.

First use went well, with the exception of a couple delayed reactions. But with all of Dallas road construction im not surprised. Just had to pay more attention to signs is all. Unlike most other gps units, on this model your not able to change voices or color of map. Those shouldn't be an issue for anyone interested, but honestly these are the only things I can find. Im extremely happy with my choice but the real test will be when I hit the big apple or junky jersey.

Rand tries to post construction every couple of weeks. Go to the map screen when you are in a route, upper right is a white box with 3 lines in it, tap on this, it will show construction area's.. But, Rand only shows long term construction.

I would suggest that you take some time and click on everything. Buttons under buttons...

    thanks,
    mark

ok so i bought the RM 710 about 3 weeks ago and i love it...ive never had a problem with it trying to put me on the lower level of the GWB like the other guys did...also i had a pc miller and it would always want me to take 395 to go into dc...why the hell would i want to do that, the 710 doesnt, it takes you right around on 495...the 710 will give you the option if you want route around the chicken coops or not...also it will tell you where constructions zones are, tell you what the speed limit is going to be (not just when you get there, but before)....the only time its been wrong was when it was about .2 miles off of my destination...other than that its great. now the price lol, i paid 484 and some change for it...expensive i know but it works
    hope this helps

I appreciate the heads up. Im still very much a newbie with it but each trip I learn a little more. So far im extremely happy with my purchase and for the current sale price, imo its the best bang for the buck. Highly recommended!
