Hi, I'm new to this forum. I joined to try and help my husband find a new GPS and thought this might be a good place.
He is an OTR driver, goes from Ontario, Canada to North Carolina, Indiana, Tenn, and occasionally Georgia. For the most part he knows his route because it is the same but he will have different pick ups/deliveries and when the roads are closed.
He previously had a Nextar GPS. He liked that one but the screen mysteriously cracked. Then we got a Garmin Nuvi 260. He likes things about it but it doesn't have a truck route and there are other things he doesn't like. He recently traded another driver his XM radio for another GPS and gave me the Nuvi. But he doesn't like that one either(not sure of the model).
We are trying to research what to get. We found a Navigon 2120 Max that looks good but has mixed reviews and we're not sure if it has a truck route. He also liked a Hewlett Packard one that did have truck route but not sure of its reviews.
We are willing to spend the $ on a good unit since this is for his job. The ones I mentioned are $290 & $350 Canadian.
Can anyone recommend something for him? Like I said he has the Garmin but was disappointed there was no truck routing as his mom's Street Pilot from a few years ago did have that.
    Thanks for your help!

    Tammy

Transport and commercial routing logistics are a professional field unto it's own. As of yet there is no popular GPS for truckers other than the laptop software packages. The Garmins, TomToms, Magellan's of all model numbers are going to be roughly the same as to maps and routes. The only real difference in price is additional features such as larger screens, blue-tooth ability, memory slots for playing mp3's and displaying pictures, and FM broadcast which will route your MP3's and phone conversations through your unit's speakers. I spent over $300 for my Garmin Nuvi 760, while it has all of that, it's not functionally different than the $79 3.5" versions for driving.

I checked one out at radioshak that had a feature you could upload from your computer to include truck routes etc. I do not remember the name of it (sorry) but I would look there and see if they couldn't help ya out.

I was recently at M.A.T.S. and the last booth I visited with was Garmin. They had already closed, however, I managed to pick up a brochure on their new unit tailored for the trucking industry (nuvi 465T). I know nothing about it and was wondering if anyone has one yet and what their views on it were.

    I found it here....

Says it comes out in the second quarter of 2009. May already be available. MSRP says $499.99 US. Looks like it has it all.

laughing to myself...bought my hubby a garmin for christmas...by was he mad at me! Of course as you know it does not have truck routes...he has since forgiven me and use it anyway...I told him it wasn't supposed to replace his common sense! LOL

Anyway he keeps telling me they sell truck versions at the truck stops, but I don't know what one. With all my calls to garmin begging for a download they did say they were working on one, probably same one mentioned above...
