Best Jacket for doing flatbed work

I'm going into flatbed work after getting out of the Army. What would be the best jacket for the money that will handle the abuse that flatbedding will give it? I have looked at carhartt jackets and they look pretty durable but am unsure as I have never owned one.

 

Your getting to worried about it. A jacket is a jacket is a jacket. I like Carhart. But several years ago company gave us big reflective ones. Mine looks pretty good cause it spends all it's time draped over the riders seat. Your over thinking, any jacket you like is fine.

 

Get a Carhart Jacket and a set of Bibs from Carhart or any of the other cheaper brands. Also get just a hooded sweatshirt. This winter for me working outside all the time driving a concrete truck and snowplowing I wear my bibs and a sweatshirt usually unless it gets really windy then I put on my jacket. The stuff is about 100 for the jacket and if you get carhart brand bibs about another 100 bucks. You wont be disappointed in them though, they are durable, very durable and don't let water as easy as you think also.

 

That's my exact set up.

 

Wear an old Army jacket. I wore my old Navy blue work jacket. Still had the rank stripes on it. Had about 3 of those; pretty rugged. Still have one almost like new stuck away in a closet.

 

Thanks, I'll be going with the carhartt jacket, the overalls, and the hooded sweatshirt idea. I guess I was overthinking things but I want to be as prepared as possible

 

Just fyi I found the jacket and bibs I wanted online. I shopped around online and when I went to the store low and behold they were on sale. Carhartt bibs unlined $45 and Carhartt jacket $70. Shop around.

 

Thanks, for the Army jacket idea, can't bring myself to wear that after getting out, especially the new stuff it sucks! For the shopping around, have been doing that, going to have everything clothing wise bought before I even start truck driving school.

 

I'm sure the Army jackets are more rugged than what we used in the Navy. The Navy ones were good & lasted for years. I had the old style, probably better than the new stuff they use now. Smart idea you have getting all your gear together now; you won't regret that at all. I was lucky, the trucking company gave me a cheater bar. These flatbedders doing it now can tell you the best place to get one of those.

 

At least your looking to be prepared not like some you see standing there freezin their backend off trying to strap down and tarp their loads.
