One thing I don't like about lease-purchase is that I take long vacations, such as 2 or 3 months. During that time off, the bills still have to be paid on the truck.

Oh the impetuousness of youth,,whatever happens to that? You see, in our society today, most want instant results, and while there are jobs that will insure that, trucking is not one of them. Trucking certainly has changed, but your initiative will do you merit, you actually WANT to do this. I say this not as a deterrent, but fact. 50% of new grads quit in the 1st 6 months, and half of the remaining don't make it a year. So, in effect, only 25% of grads actually stay with it, MOSTLY because, it just doesn't happen fast enough, and they lose interest. The reality is, out of school, your only hope is a mega carrier, doing hand unload Dollar General accounts, and there's nothing wrong with that, except, it's not what many envisioned on recruitment day. I can't offer any advice on an owner purchase program, I'd have to think you'd be better off with 100,000 lottery tickets, used trucks are at "glut" status, because these drivers are throwing in the towels for good company jobs, with NONE of the hassle. Good luck, pal.

There are tons of trucking companies to work for. In other fields, being attracted to the bigs suggests a certain amount of assurance you won't get messed over too badly. That is not the case in trucking and not when the turnover rate is 80-120% per year. About half of trucking companies offer tuition reimbursement (TR) for school, so you don't have to have CDL school fees in your checking account before you go to CDL school. While I rushed into trucking a week or two before I became homeless, that's not the best way to do it,I had a father and a brother in trucking already, who found a perfect company for me, so I had 100% confidence that I had a job waiting for me and just needed to pass my state exam. Just pick a place you want to live or work from and then search for trucking companies in that area. Too many entering the industry think they have to work for CR England, Prime, Stevens, or Swift. There are thousands of trucking companies and thousands of trucking companies that will repay any CDL school loan, if anyone has one of those. The people that rush into the megas often do very little research and consequently don't find a good match for an employer. That is exactly how you borrow thousands for school and then quit the industry before you repay that time/money commitment. As long as someone doesn't require they live in East Puddle insert_state_here there are multiple employers in your area. OTR is harder than the one long driving vacation the newbie is remembering. Driving is the easy part of this job, it's all of the non-driving tasks nobody tells you about that make it so hard, oh and the lies.
