My luck has been from Pennsylvania going out. What I have been doing is picking up load going from NJ to PA, they don't pay as well but from PA you can get a good paying load going into Connecticut or Albany.

I just started about 2 months ago myself, and will like to hear from people in the area that have been doing this.

Don't worry about us stealing your ideas there is enough load to go around. lol

The problem with the "good paying load going into Connecticut" is that you might not find a good paying one come out! At least I never find one and sometimes I choose to come back empty to NJ, the rate being ridiculously low to hassle for.

    Just my 2 cents.

Well if you can't find a good paying load out of CT your load going there wasn't good either. You have to be able to do 1 of 2 things for a load to be good. Either pick the close by cheap stuff for a reload to get out or deadhead far away and get a higher paying loaded miles only load that averages the same with deadhead included as the close by cheap load. If you get there and end up gnashing your teeth cause the averages aren't working your "good load" was only another cheap one. Lesson learned there just bite the bullet, get out, maybe it doesn't hurt your average in the bigger picture - and do not repeat the same mistake over again. Next time only go there if the rate is 50 cents or a dollar or whatever it needed to be so you can truly call it good. $2.75 a mile might be good to some places but to others it might be a loser....

I know lots of folks here in Pa that only run NE&Lots of Ct....EVERY load is bid on a round trip figure--( all the big regionals work this way also)

then they just bounce back for the next one...

From the NE you can make good $ either running into NYC (its a pain but it pays). Big key is pay attention where the load takes you. Say you get one going to Swansea, MA @ 4$/mi. You will have a tough time leaving there without a good deadhead. (Just an example!).

Be smart about where you go. There's good money just have to work hard for it. I try to save by keeping toll price to a minimum. Just be smart :)

True it is hard to find a good load coming back from PA mostly I get rates around $2 a mile. I just try to make sure they are light load so I use less on fuel.

Im up near Albany, not to far away. Ive been seeing you can do ok if you can find shorter runs and base your pay on a round trip with half being deadhead. I think overall in this area except for maybe in and out of the big apple the rates are on the low side due to the fact they are strong coming up here from the south and thats where guys are making there money and taking whatever they can going out keeping them low at least with flatbed maybe im wrong.

It's the same with dry van. Big money coming in from the south, little leaving unless you grab a load from the NYC side.
