If you want something unique that can be built good find a pre-egr 14L Detroit as stated above. I believe some were 575 from the factory.

Just about any of them can hit 600 fairly easy. Even a 12.7 Detroit or a b series Cummins. What kind of torque do you want.

Cat 3406 any day of the week... Just make darn sure you put really high quality pyro sensors in it.

    Lepton1 and Nothereoften Thank this.

I’d like to be around 1800-2100 for TQ.

I need to upgrade the trans anyway as it’s starting to get tired. I’d like to rebuild my old w900a

I’d love to have a c18 or KT Cummins but can’t find any that aren’t priced threw the roof

You don’t need that. A Kt will produce 2500ftlbs. A big cam 4 can be had cheap and will do what you want same with an n14

I've always heard the big cam 4s would overheat pretty quick if you turned them up much.

I got a small cam 400 that seems to heat up quick in all temps over 50 degrees so I’m not sure if the radiator is to small or just a small cam/big cam issue

If you’re talking about water temp, then yes the right radiator and proper air flow will help that. They will all get hot on the pyro pushing big power. That’s why you have to relearn how to drive

I have a 6nz @ 475 in our dump truck, and I don't even want to re-rate it to 550 because at 52,000 gross I am rarely able to use all the power it has. Maybe you pull a trailer as well.

    To each their own though.

I have a 12.7 with a triple play from Diesel Control Service. 500, 600 or 700 HP at the turn of a switch. He can set it any way you want.

Now if you want a real horse find a 1693 Cat, the last real motor that cat made.
