They are low on torque stock and if you push them too high they tend to break cranks. KT’s are great, but heavy, hard to find, expensive, and not many people know how to work on them now. A buzzin’ Dozen Detroit are big and that’s about it. And good luck finding a 1693

If I was doing a KT, I'd find a generator and scavenge the motor.

Finding someone that knows a 1693 is a real problem. A 3406B that's right will make an ### outta that 1693 all day.

KT's are a hoss for sure but so few know anything about them. They never were just plentiful to begin with. I guess most have forgotten about all the head gasket trouble that can come from them.

3408's had the same trouble as any V-8 diesel. Built right and run right they are hard to beat and my choice

Ok thank you guys I have a few ideas to look out for now . I’d like a inline 6 but I’m open to others.

I don’t drive far but a lot of it is driving up long Stretches of 6% and 5% in grades

Compression ratio? What type of fuel pump? Most likely gon be day cab for oilfield work. Deff need full lockers and 4.11 at the minimum

Our 99 has 4.42 no idea what's done to it but she rolls coal like an old 5 speed maxi. 93 will still walk it tho. 99 came out of the factory a 427 (better tq curve than 460) but a crate 460 was put in it and it. Still has 427 ecu maybe that's why it rolls coal.

Not many older mack guys here
It's one he'll of a motor for only being 11.9L and with xt package it's 487hp/1750tq.

I like my pushrod motors ohc is for cars.

460 was the highest horse on highway engine. There is a 580 hp industrial engine that has steel top pistons.

The 460 was 14.5 to 1 the piston domes were 6 degrees.

The 580 was 14.6 to 1 with 9 degrees. Also you need to have a crank for the wide rods as well as a mechanical C pump. 18 degree static timing is best and extremely rare. Course you can still buy a new pump cam. That takes a few dollars but hell what don't
