I'M STILL A YOUNG GUY THAT GREW UP IN A SMALL TOWN, BEEN WORKING CORRECTIONS THE LAST 3YRS AND GETTING BURNT OUT ON IT, LOOKING TO CHANGE CAREERS AND WAS THINKING TRUCKING WOULD BE A GOOD WAY TO SEE THE COUNTRY...NO WIFE, NO KIDS, NOTHING OTHER THAN MY TRUCK PAYMENT DEPENDING ON ME...NOT WORRIED ABOUT EXTENDED TIME ON THE ROAD OR EVEN OFF TIME FOR THAT MATTER... WHO'S THE BEST COMPANY (that pays for school) TO START OUT WITH.. THINKING ABOUT CRST IN IOWA WAS TOLD TO STAY AWAY FROM
WERNER, CR ENGLAND, USA TRUCKING AND P.A.M.(BOTH ONLY PAY AROUND .26/MILE),
ADVICE,TIPS, OPINIONS... JUST TIRED OF PRISON IS ALL..
Best place to start?

i started at a county lockup at 20 was there for 2 1/2yrs and been at a state prison for 9mnths now... pay jus isn't worth the bs from other staff members and offenders alike...jus want to see something other than chain link fence... don't think i want to make a career out of something withe the highest suicide, divorce, heart problems rates and shortest life expectancy (spelling may not be correct, jus worked a double shift due to number of call-in's, go figure)

Run a web cam for your first 6 months
It's always fun to watch an immovable object, meet another.
Your going to have fun.Tardis Thanks this. -
A web cam, now thats a great idea...could be a new reality show.."New truckers"
I am sure it would get plenty of laughs, especially from the seasoned drivers.
I am not looking for another long career, just want some otr experience and another license to fall back on, maybe some local part time work like gravel trains...thats the beauty of it, one career down so nothing is forever anymore and pretty much anything is worth trying. The freedom of the open road has always appealed to me, more than ever now since I have been divorced a few years and my kids are grown. -
I come from a communications/broadcasting background.
Even owned my own business, then sold it, when I realized it was more work than I wanted to do. -
Glad to hear that, you felt similar and still going after 23 years....nice..

With the time you have in, I'm assuming you are drawing a retirement of course. You should be able to pick and choose companies and driving opportunities without much stress.
The "happiest" drivers I've met over the years, have already retired from one job. And just aren't ready for the rocking chair and porch.HAMADOWN Thanks this. -
bulldog look closely at com colleges for their schools , carriers that pay for school have you under contract ! I don't want you feeling like you on the other side of the fence. I tell newbies to pick a carrier first then look for a school they hire from . Best of luck !

Money ?? Well, you will be starting at around .26 a mile too start at most companies. Just be sure you discuss rates of increase. Each company is differant. One may keep you at .26 for 6 months. Another may bump you to .30 after 90 days.
It pays to compare.
And yes !!!!! Stay the hell away from CRST if you enjoy eating.bulldogk07 Thanks this.
