Hope yall can help. Is I-40 to I-75 better than I-77 to US 33-Us23?
I'm pulling a 40ft 15k fifth wheel back home with a Dodge Cummins 2500. The truck that got me here was a newer Dodge 3500 Cummins with exhaust brake and it's in the shop for another 10 days and I gotta get home. I'm concerned about my overloaded truck pulling them grades. Thanks.
Best roads from NC to MI, least amount of steep grades.

Here is a map to help you with the big picture
I vote for the I77 route. -
I-40 to I-75, you only have Black Mtn and Jellico to cross, then rolling hills. I-77 is mountains all the way to Charleston WVa. If you care about the transmission pulling the kind of weight and wind resistance you will have with a high 5, I would go I-40. It's a little farther, according to where you are coming from, but will be much easier on the truck. Also, with the mountains you will be going up and down on I-77, I would feel safer the way I mentioned since you will have single rear wheels.
kickin chicken Thanks this. -
Good advice. Thanks. I was thinking I-40 was better too. The truck has some 400+ horsepower and an aftermarket tranny that locks up good in 3rd and 4th. I'm sure I can pull Black Mountain and I've pulled up Jellico before with that truck, it wasn't a problem. I'm running 22k loaded. 2000lbs over what the chassis is designed for. I'll make it. Thanks again.
stranger and kickin chicken Thank this.
