I can post just as many as you. Truth be told nobody really know. They are still collecting bodies and the road is the least of the worries at this point
Ruthless, Numb, drvrtech77 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'm going to say if NCDOT themselves says there is no timeline yet, that's probably the truth. None of the sources posted quote NCDOT reps like the one I posted and none are as recent as mine. At best they quote unnamed sources of questionable origin almost a week ago. I mean some people are literally pulling their info from GOOGLE maps and such and calling that what NCDOT says. My source shows a video of NCDOT 5 days after the most recent one posted on this thread that I saw, with updated information, saying there is no date of reopening available at all right now.
It's not about how many you post, its about the RELIABILITY of the source.Last edited: Oct 6, 2024
Numb Thanks this. -
I drove down to Hendersonville today to help my parent's and Son. I went down I-77 to Statesville and picked up I-40 West to Asheville and the I-26 East to Hendersonville. I had no real problems but traffic was crazy bad from about the Virginia line until I got to my parent's house. I saw much devastation, especially Old Fort, Black Mountain, and Swannanoa in the areas I could see from the Interstate.

I would say take pics but I CAN'T get myself to enjoy photos of death and destruction like this. A few trees down on power lines is one thing. This is something else.

I can't think of a more surprising and devastating event in my lifetime than what happened in western North Carolina.
The more you look into the more unbelievable the while situation is.
Nobody even warned of something like this for that area, this whole area should have been evacuated far earlier. -
Yeah they knew it was going through there ahead of time but evacuation? Why? An event like this hasn't really happened this far inland from a hurricane. Nobody evacuates these it's usually just some flash flooding. There was really no reason to expect such. Most people would have shrugged their shoulders had anyone stuck their neck out and ordered an evacuation.

Here are pictures from the Swannanoa area. Samaritans purse is doing great work here, helping my cousin's whose home was flooded.
MACK E-6, Numb and ElmerFudpucker Thank this. -
God in heaven that's someones house. There are thousands more just like it.

The heck with the EPA. Push all that debris out into the middle of the streets and light the fire. Faster and easier than hauling it all to the dump.
