Going bobtail and looking for the best route. Heard that Colorado DOT are a pain in the butt and if you don’t have your vin on the side of your truck they’ll give you a fine, any truth?

Colorado stopped me for not having a truck number on the side my truck.
    Be ready.

You sort of heard right. They want, if I remember right, 8 numbers of the VIN on it, not 6 like most allow...and whether they issue or not, is subjective I guess. but they may have you bring in the paperwork to get the 8 numbers on it. One in particular that I can't think of now, since it's been so long, where they usually asked me for that. As for route, I-10 to Junction and hopping on US 83 to Sweetwater, I-20 to US 84 to Lubbock then I-27 to Amarillo and then 87 to 287 in Dumas to 385 to Lamar, CO and then US 50 to US 287 on to I-70 to Denver, CO and I-25 Straight up to Douglas. I loved taking that route, just make sure you have plenty of fuel. :)

You have to go through Texas Hill Country. Great for a bobtail. Not so much if you're heavy.

The Lamar weigh station is open all the time from 08:00-17:00. I got stopped there when I was with Heartland because they couldn’t read my VIN. You heard correctly.

I work the oilfield and whatever you do, do NOT take 285. Two lanes most of the way, tons of traffic and the occasional accident backing traffic up for miles.

    Dexterr and goga Thank this.

The first time in a calendar year when you cross into Colorado they will have you bring your cab card inside.

But IDK about the VIN, every truck I've ever driven has had at least the last 6 digits on it.
