Well I'm starting off on DAT board and they're full of 1.00-1.50/ mile loads. I don't know what to do? I actually felt luck getting 1.85 compared to what was on the DAT LOADBOARD.
Where else should I be looking?

If it doesn't pick up for you, consider mercer. I'm just under 2 bucks on all miles, and that's living in the freight black hole of Florida.SheepDog Thanks this.

You just started out with new authority right? I'd suggest posting your truck and waiting on calls. Don't bother calling anyone, they know you are new and take advantage of that, let them call then put them in their place. Depending on where you're at (what is your wagon) you will either be pleasantly amazed or disappointed. There will be some very high dollar dry van moves this week. They still try to move things cheap before noon even when capacity is tight. Post your truck at lunch and patiently dictate high rates. Don't be fazed by astonishment, these brokers hear and pay high rates all the time when they need to. Don't be afraid to quote $4-$5 a mile on 600+ runs. It takes a few months to get a general hang of things. Don't give up on your authority so soon. My first few months I would have been really happy with a $1.85 avg I was 20 cents below that. If and when you get in a groove $2 mile avg is a piece of cake, if, you can figure out the game.....Rich_Trucking, g.o.a.l, 281ric and 2 others Thank this.

dad says he can make $5000 (included taxes and fuel bills) on frac sand in one week and reefer/dry van only make in 3 weeks. Where other reefer/van jobs you can get that much money in one week.

Please explain why you lease your trucks to a carrier if you have your own authority.. If you are doing 1.85 per mile I doubt that the carrier is paying you more.. Is it the consistent freight the carrier has and you don't have to wait for brokers to pay or something else? -
Got that right!!

well, I don't plan to keep hauling at 1.85, that is an average of only my first and second long haul loads. That is why I utilize this forum, to improve and learn to find better ways to get good paying freight.

Don't let none of these drivers cause you to lose focus of your goal. There is a wealth of knowledge on this forum and eventually an old hand will come on here and give you what your asking, maybe not in detail but, they will lead you in the right direction.
