Best Routes to Make most money??

There part that is the most humorous to me is thinking "cause I have the dot authority" means something. In truth that means absolutely nothing, many of us have an mc#. And anyone that can fill out a basic form and write a 300 dollar check can get that authority. Op, you would be best served suspending your operating authority and leading your trucks onto a carrier.
That goes for anyone that doesn't have direct accounts. Load board freight just doesn't pay enough to cover the extra expenses.

 

I agree with that 100% if he has money to burn on a fleet with loadboards - that's exactly the result he'll get. Considering his ignorance of the business I'd be surprised if he could only end up losing $3-4k a month for quiet some time. An owner with a passion/experience for this business and one or a handful of trucks could make out quiet well off loadboards. Somebody playing truck manager who's heart is really not in the game, I'd suggest pursuing a true passion instead.... must be hundreds of other businesses with half the headaches out there...

 

for back haul you need to get loads going to canada all of these loads pay very well over 3 pm you need to lease on with someone because we can tell you lack business plan you need 2$ pm unless you are very rich can tell you are going fail. do you understand how many drivers will quit you they will steal cheat and rob you blind they will miss appointments and tare up equipment but let the fun begin. lease on to some one get some cash flow and then try load broads.

 

Why, yes, I do own my own business; and it was started with all of my own hard earned cash as a debt free business. It is still debt free. Nobody gave me anything. I started trucking in 1995 at the age of 21. My dad was also a trucker for many years.

Sorry to strike a nerve with you, but you sounded quite naive. Plus, I'm really sick of the "get rich quick" types who think trucking is the holy grail when they fail at other businesses. They come into trucking with a misguided business plan, having no experience in trucking, and too in debt to get out of trucking. They run cheap freight just to keep their head above water and the banks happy.

As for giving you free advice; I say, pay your dues and earn it on your own like I have done.

 

If someone chooses to pay their drivers percentage from gross then it's possible to avoid chasing volume long haul freight which generally does not pay the best. In my opinion flatbed is more challenging than say reefer so I would shoot for 3+ dollars per running mile or it defeats the purpose . Midwest,TX, short hauls inNorth East is where money is at. Nothing wrong with going to a bad freight area like ND or south FL
as long as the rate is right. My dispatcher also can tell me how many trucks are sitting empty nearby so that I know if it makes sense to wait or get the hell out so yes there are applications to figure out chances of getting a good paying load from where you are going to or simulate these trips on paper without physically breaking even or losing money.
