    Hi there,

My company is installing a large sculpture in Palo Alto and we are located in San Francisco.
We will not be able to fit under any bridge under 21'. What is the best way to figure out how we can make it down there? The trip is only 45 minutes but there are many bridges to go under.

    Thank you,

    Tristan

The state usually requires a route survey. This is performed by a pilot car with a height pole. And even after the survey, they will require things like a front escort with a pole car and at 21 feet, a bucket truck. $$$$$$

    Anything else, @Rontonio?

You did contact your state, didn't you?

    Rand McNalley atlas.

You do know you have to get a over size permit? And the permit office will generally route you.

21ft is a superload. He wouldn't be able to get a permit without the route survey. You're looking at a couple civilian escorts, possibly a LEO and the bucket truck. $$$$$$

What lad said. Call the state, then call a few pros. Its a 1 day move, but you will be restricted for both route and time. If its 20'+ dont even think about doing it in house.

    (Unless your a osod hauler!)

How will you fit under power lines, traffic signals, street lights, etc if you are over 21' tall ????

This is different. Superload rules would apply. Completely different set of rules than the normal OSOW regs. Depending on the route and everything involved, you could be looking at weeks. But, I would definitely look for a pro who already has the extra insurance and know how.

This is a video of a shorter, but probably heavier load.

I dont doubt you. I ment done in a day, a 45 min drive, so what? 30 miles? Their gonna have to take down powerlines, pre check for trees ect.. i would think they would want to do it all at once over several hours in one day....

    TripleSix Thanks this.
