Do not have a cdl yet. looking at all options. Roehl starts at .37 for reefer and Prime at .43 more if you take small truck. others pay near that?
Looking at reefer. Located in Indiana wanting OTR

10.00 a mile is great, but not if you are only running 10 miles a week.

CPM is only half the equation. Last year I switched companies and took a .13 per mile pay cut, and also went from 1800-2000 miles a week to 3200-3400. I am making more money at my current carrier.

You are looking to get trained and to get your foot in the door. Where you start is not where you are going to end up. Pick a carrier that offers you the best possible training scenario for what you want to do in the future and go with them.

Where you begin should not be your end all.

I did that once starting at the "Top pay" of .25 in the early 90's ignoring the creeping truth there has been no raises that year at all. While others in my range of senority started at .20 got to around 28 and .30 in 9 months roughly.

None. Pay by the hour is best but sometimes you got to take what you can get.

Even better: 80% of .52cpm plus $26.00 per hour then full rate after 5 years @ Grocery Haulers with 100% company paid benefits..

I never worked for less then 45 cpm in the 10 plus years of my "career". We you look for work understand that your rate is negotiated. You do not have to take their offer, you can counter offer. The industry lowballs to get freight and then passes the s crewing off to the newbies. Stop the circle of victimization. Do not work cheap.

Keep in mind, decent medical and dental which cost $200.00 per month 8 years ago, will cost you $800.00 per month now thanks to Obamacare

And a single tooth extraction with the OPT OUT of Government insurance of any kind, medicaid and medicare cash on barrel head is 800 dollars including IV narcotics and oxygen support plus crash cart should complicatios arise. Any Oral Surgeon licensed to extract teeth in 50 peices because you cannot get it pulled by beefy regular dentists... will charge that money and make it stick.

Dental Insurance privately is availible. 32 a month but... be warned. No cosmetic procedures like crowns, those are 500 each to start. Root canals are 1500 per tooth drilled. Insurance generally paid 60% until about 2000 global cap is reached for the year, all else is borne by yours truly.

We probably the two of us incurred about 35,000 dollars dental work cash over the last 15 years to preserve our health such as it is. It's so important.

STaying clean and not doing drugs is where the damage is done to the community. for every one who is unable to pay, the rest of us that do pay take it in the teeth.

That's the company i want to start with Roehl but the dry van they pay .35 a mile. I'm going with their cdl training. Lots of good positive reviews on the company. The only thing that somewhat bugs me is i read that some drivers never go out west. They are stuck in the east and don't go past I35. I want to see the whole country.
