I have been driving about a year with Prime and have been thinking about ways to increase hometime while maintaining income. My house in western NC is in escrow and was wondering where is the best place in the US for an otr driver to live? Rural and LCOL of course?

I had the same thoughts before. It all depends on which state you cross into the most. I thought about Ohio as I am always passing through there plus it seems that is where all of the factories and warehouses are located. Though I do pass through St Louis a billion times when going to Chicago or Memphis, but I wouldn't want to live in that city/state.

I agree you have to find the balance between accessible miles and wanting to live there...a lot of the places I am near most I would not want to live..

Check those states which have major north/south, east/west interstates, preferably in the middle of the country. You may not stay with Prime for the long term, so I would not necessarily make my decision based upon their routing. I would also look at taxes. Some states have high income and property taxes.

I agree taxes can make or break it...wish I could buy in north Florida but I Know I'd never get home! Have family west of Gainesville.

Dallas suburbs. NO state income tax, low property taxes, low cost of living, and major freight lanes.

Not sure how much property I can get outside of Dallas. Thinking i need to be on at least 10 acres. I love Texas though

Yeah Texas is a great state except for endless road construction, scorching summer heat, and a billion illegal immigrants. I hardly go to Texas since the loads down there don't pay as much since everything is cheaper down south.

one thing i noticed about the megas

if you live east, they keep you west
if you live west, they keep you east

maybe moving in the center will help, maybe not
