    About a month ago, I posted a thread asking if WI was a good state to be a dump truck driver, and some of the replies seemed to indicate that WI is a good state for truck driving period. Also, dumptruck drivers do get paid more in the rust belt, but it’s more seasonal, so perhaps that’s the reason it pays more up north. (I’m currently located in south GA).

    Wisconsin a good state for dump truck drivers?

    But is it true that some states pay better for any type of truck driving, be it dump, delivery, etc.? As a single person, I’d be willing to move to WI or wherever if it means earning better income (like the old saying “go where the money is”). Of course, while some states may have higher income numerically, the cost of living (particularly housing) is also high, so that would offset it. And other states have low living costs, but jobs there pay lower (Mississippi would be an example).

    Lastly, I prefer not being OTR, as I’m home every night. I also like being paid hourly. At my current dumptruck job if something goes wrong (asphalt plant, paving machine, or truck breaks down) I’m still being paid. I also enjoy getting OT. I’m only at $16.25 hourly, but almost never work less than 50 hrs weekly. So I can net more than someone earning $23 hourly but only working 40 hrs weekly.

    Plenty of dump truck jobs in Reno, Nevada. There's no personal state income taxes and no food taxes at the grocery store.
    I usually recommend Las Vegas, but there's a coming water shortage. Lots of dump truck jobs in Las Vegas though.
    Most dump truck jobs in Reno pay well, starting over $20 hr.

    Are you interested in line-haul jobs? Some good ones in Reno.
    Old Dominion Freight Line has local and line haul. Both are home every day.
    Terminal is in Lockwood which is about 10 miles from Reno.

    @Zonno --

    If you were to move outside the southeastern US--I would submit that you may well make more money, but it's a safe bet that the costs of living would offset most (or even all) of that.

    A better question might be--to make significantly more $$$, in what other forms of home-daily driving would you be interested? Line haul? Fuel delivery? Food service? Something else?

    What city in south Georgia is closest to your location? Tifton? Valdosta? Waycross? Albany? Somewhere else?

    There are plenty of home-daily options in south Georgia....the real question here is....can you/would you think "outside the box"?

    As Chinatown suggested above in post #5--linehaul is home daily, and it pays fantastic. But it requires all the CDL endorsements--tanker, hazmat, and doubles/triples.

    What endorsements do you have? If you don't have them--are you willing/able to get them?

    Also--how much CDL experience do you have thus far, pulling a trailer that's at least 48 feet long?
