Hey guys i just started cdl school today monday and found out that by next Monday we will need to have our commercial license permit i had no idea prior to this that we would have to take our written test so quick i studied some of the book before starting school but in no way do i feel like im ready to take the test with all endorsements
Our instructor advised us that we should get the general knowledge airbrake and combination written exams by monday in order to drive
So i have less then a week to study taking test this Saturday morning but what i wanted to ask is should i only study for these test and wait to do endorsements later or should i try to cram as much stuff in
Any other advice is welcomed im all ears

Use the high road program on truckingtruth.com, you'll be golden.

Get the cdl manual for the state you will take the test in, then study. It is a rather easy test to do, not much in technical stuff needed but a bunch of little things with numbers.
I would just get the permit now and then as you go along, add the endorsements if you want to start driving ASAP.Puppage Thanks this. -

Go to a different school..the school I attended studied the written test and covered the manual and all went to get the wriiten test and permit together(even then 50% failed first attempt)...
I cant imagine having to learn/memorize all that info by myself.RedTheTrucker Thanks this. -
My school was an 8 week course and we had to have our permit in hand when we showed up for 1st day.
Take the practice tests over and over. It really helped me. Calm down and get it done. It's the easiest part of the CDL process... Study for your endorsements after your permit tests and before you finish school. That way you can get them all at once when you go pick up your CDL -

Good luck..and as others have said.."Stay calm"
Also don't get in a hurry..i finished my test paper(s)and took it to the front to be graded and the testing went on..on..and on for another long time while I waited outside for others to finish and actually I was disappointed in my score if I had taken longer and re-read the entire test I actually would have done better..I missed some very simple/obvious questions.but passed.
Also..looking back it was a very easy classroom to have cheated..huge room..no one appeared to be watching(or care).. -
Take the practice test here on ttr

Study your state manual!!!!
I got it two weeks after starting school with a simple routine:
Monday - General Knowledge
Tuesday - Combinations
Wednesday - Air Brakes
Thursday - Online practice tests/Review Weak Areas (I recommend this website and Freecdl)
Friday - Take Test
The best shortcut is a straight path. So take it head on.
Also wait to get your endorsements; don't put more on yourself than you have to. Take it sometime in the future.Last edited: Jun 30, 2015
