Got a 2002 60 Series, running 3:55s, 13 speed. I was wondering what the best tire was for MPGs. Thanks everybody.

I cannot say about gearing.... but for the best mpg tire it needs to be closed shoulder, shallow not deep tread, ribbed design (like trailer/steers), and low pro.
Closed shoulder and shallow tread help with wind resistance. A deeper tread drags more wind but of course doesn’t last as long. Ribbed design is also for wind resistance. Low pro because the tire sidewall isn’t as high which means there would be less tire flex which gives a lower tire rolling resistance.
For mpg and not a heavy winter tire it would ideally be any low pro all position type tire. It is perfectly legal and acceptable to have non drive only tires as drives.PE_T and Montanaboy1988 Thank this. -
You should say at what speed you will mostly run.Montanaboy1988 Thanks this.

I like to keep it around 65-68... 70 if I'm in a hurry

Michelin x line energy steers drive Michelin x line energy d drive also Bridgestone m 710 is a good drive tires with low rolling resistance 22.5 low profile good luck in all your adventuresblairandgretchen and Montanaboy1988 Thank this.

I like hankook. They make some efficiency rated tires. Not sure which ones as I haven't bought any rubber for a few years

According to the Roadranger calculator, with a .73 overdrive 13 speed, 3.55's and low pro 22.5's, you'll be running 67 mph at 1500 rpm, which is the sweet spot for the Detroit with any kind of weight on.

Thank you sir! I was actually looking for a website like that. Thanks for the info. I bought this truck a couple months ago, it's runnin 24.5 tall.....
-
24.5 low pro is about the same as 11:00 22.5, wouldn't have to change wheels get 3 more MPH and 50
RPM drop. am running same transmission with 3:42 plan to switch from 195 22.5 to 11:00 22:5 next
set of tires. there are folks on here that have made that change and gotten better fuel mileage, but your
right foot has a lot to do with itblairandgretchen and Montanaboy1988 Thank this. -
Most are from factory w/ 24.5 lo pros.I have Classic w/ same set up. Running around 1400 rpms gets best mileage. Light and flatland. Hit hills heavy I sometimes thing drivability would improve w/ 370 gears. Or at least current 355s w/ 22 lo pro. Also 22 better availability and priced a little cheaper.Id stay with 24.5 lo pros I stick with Closed shoulder Luggers losing a little mpg worth traction in snow and longer tread wear lifeAccidental Trucker and Montanaboy1988 Thank this.
