I've tried a hickory thumper, a hammer with a rubber handle, plastic headed hammer, thumper with the metal end on it and now I'm back to the simple piece of hickory. If it stings my hand a little were good to go. Also like to look between the duals to check for tire squat

Jab it with a tread depth gauge, and do two things at once (2/32 my foot, now it's 4, and I can feel the air pressure too)...

Three pound dead blow hammer, with a long handle. Also works great for freeing frozen brakes.

"kicking a tire" is a good way to get your toenails broke, jammed up, and cause 'ingrown toenail' which is very painful, is my opinion of 'kicking a tire'. To each their own. Learn and let live,,,:) I use a regular 16 oz. claw hammer,,,the one that I also nail in cleats in the trailer, etc with. And use as a self defense weapon, along with my trusty 'Wasp Spray', and fillet knife. Never know when I might stop and catch a few and fry them up...need a fillet knife, Officer, I really do".

I use a 3/4 inch steel pipe 18 inches long with a brass T connector on the end. It doubles as a clean out cap tightener and dome ear hammer.
