Best tool to thump a tire

I started out using a masonry hammer, hit the tire dead center on a lug. Could use a heavy ball peen, but I had a masonry hammer to use the chisel end get my strap hooks through the rub rail when I hauled hay. After I lost the hammer, I just used my winch bar. Keep on hand on the tire to feel the vibration AND listen to the tone.
