I know being from New York many insurance companies due not write insurance for carriers here. Great West, OOIDA, NASTC don't write in NY. I am not familiar with other states but here two different agents cannot quote you for the same carrier. Our commie government in NY must enjoy limiting competition similar to the way health insurance works here. When I lived in South Carolina we had our choice of 57 health insurance plans to choose from in NY it was 3.

That is particular rule of insurance company, not government I believe.Happened to me what I wanted to switch to an agent 15 miles from home. They told me I have to be with different company for a year.

If you can point out years of experience and low psp scores to the insurance company it might be of help. Along with no claims, no out of service or logbook violations should help lower insurance rates. Great West always took care of our insurance needs through the Great River Agency in Mankato MN.

Be careful with OOIDA insurance. I have never experienced it but I have heard some brokers will not except their insurance. (Landstar is one that comes to mind.) I have "heard" it's a way companies get back at OOIDA because OOIDA sued said company at one time or another.

I have a couple buddies running their own authority and dump truck here in San Antonio they say their insurance is 18k a year with Progressive. Seems way to expensive.

Great West is supposed to be the best if I was going to over pay for insurance they would be the one. Just one guy's experience and opinion. Good luck!

Call Cline Wood agency the will shop a lot of markets and also will offer different types of acessorial insurance that you need. I've also found that they are the cheapest. Also dont talk to more than 2-3 agencies because they lock up markets and might/might not give you a good price.

Great West is the best but they will not talk to you, they will refer you to an Agent, which Cline Wood is and they are a partner with Great West, Call 888-451-3900 and ask for Hailey Skinner, she will also answer any questions you have. Tell her Raz send you. Also as Army91W said, do not go to OOIDA, they low price might sound good but they dont work with a large list of brokers, some of them being HUB Group, JB Hunt and LAndstar, Crowley. Those are huge, also you dont know who else will be added to that list. Private message me if you have any questions.

I have contacted the insurance market out here in Delaware the other day and they quoted new entrant insurance between 9600 and 11k for the first year, slight drop year 2 and around 6500 year three without any incidents. This also included a rider for hauling produce.

The premium costs are so variable based on driving record, years of CDL experience, garaging location, radius of operations and limits, that liability only can vary with us from as low as $ 4,500 for a Ag hauler going up & down 99 with a set to $27,500 for a set hauling sand & gravel in Dade County. We're trying to get our long haul rates (300+ miles, interstate) up to around $ 9,500-10,000 all around the country as we file new rates. Be careful of rates that are SO much lower than anyone else's.....something must be missing coverage wise......like all the investors of Bernie Madoff's.........you're getting 40% returns on investment when everyone else is losing and you wonder why you just lost everything.

One key component to buying truck insurance is the Bests rating of the carrier. Many Brokers and Shippers require at least a "A" rating......and as some have mentioned most every carrier has it's own underwriting criteria.....like Progressive not doing over 500 miles and not offering Hired & Non-Owned coverage.

Get with a professional insurance producer that does a lot of truck insurance as they will know the marketplace. We frequently are asked to only quote liability as our producers understand they can find "more competitive" cargo & phys dam pricing from other markets.
