Groovemachine I'd like to clear up one thing. I gave you examples of the top. There's plenty of outfits that haul gasoline that don't pay by the hour and are lousy jobs. Just like all other areas of trucking you have to be in the pits before you reach the good jobs. The main goal you need to concern yourself with is keeping your record clean and your performance high. You need to build your name up so the big companies will know you. Keep your eyes and ears open and your mouth shut. That doesn't mean not to ask questions but just always remember there's someone that knows more than you. If you keep a good attitude with the idea that there's always something new to learn then maybe one day you'll get to the top job. Just don't give up and you can always haul gasoline for someone once you're trained. I've seen drivers change companies all the time.

    Great post GasHauler...

I take that advice very seriously and appreciate it. That will definitely be my approach as I enter the industry.

I'm actually thinking about getting into food grade tankers after a year experience otr...

Something about being around those chemicals for years seems like a potential red flag health wise.

Right after I got my cdl I entered into a job hauling fuel. I have nothing to compare it to but I love it. Yes there are stations where you have to deal with idiots and sometimes your load wont fit, but I get paid by the hour so I dont care. I thinking hauling fuek is great to be home everynight and my company gives me 50-70 hours weekly with OT. Maybe I lucked out but hauling fuel isnt bad. Its pretty easy if you ask me.
