Figure out how much length you want, and set your current hanger for it. Then, add an extra hanger to take up the slack between the original hanger and the truck fittings.gentleroger Thanks this.

Don’t shorten them. We’ve always set up the length of the lines to go a foot past the fifth wheel that is maxed out rearward when laid down and stretched out on the frame. Reason is you may get a chance to hook to a low boy or some other oddball trailer that requires the extra length. I borrowed a detachable neck Viking from a friend one weekend just to move 4 antique trucks 10 miles. I had to use every inch of line I had and it was still tight.
