Not sure I understand the question.
Are you referring to an Owner Operator leasing his truck to a carrier vs an Owner Operator with his own authority?
Or ??
Hurst -
An owner operator is someone leased onto a motor carrier
A motor carrier is someone with their own authorityFreddy57 Thanks this. -
With that hat out of the way he's probably correct on the intention of this thread.MickTrucker Thanks this. -
Isn't the intent of the OP all about under whose Authority one runs???
did I misunderstand the OP? We might need a bit of clarification here. -
It all depends. If you plan Well,Do homework,Line up your lanes,Customers and professionaliosm, Then get your own authority and Sweat Blood like the rest of us success stories..
If your shy about customer relationsships,Hate paperwork and filings, Then go out and lease-on with an existing carrier..They'll do most of the leg-work for you (At a 25% cost to you) of course..And with the secrecy that this industry entails........Im not too sure you'll ever know the truth when you lease on to carriers -
So I been a motor carrier for 15 years while saying I'm an O/O I been under selling myself.
Lone Ranger 13 and Freddy57 Thank this. -
Pros and cons to both I guess. For me personally I like running my own show. Do I have a lot more work to do when I get home than an owner op leased to a major carrier? probably but in the end its worth it to me. I thinkstayinback hit the nail on the head. If you like building the business/relationships etc then Independent is prob where you will be happy if not go the O/O route. Bad part is there is really no way to know other than jump in with both feet.
