I keep track of every little detail when it comes to pay at Prime. Everything is milage based when it comes to raises and vacation, soni like to keep on top of it.

Looking over my spreadsheet for this year, I noticed that within a week or two I will surpass my total gross pay for 2009. Not too shabby considering I made about $47k last year... And will still have another 2 months of driving to add to this years total (2.5 months if I count all my planned time off I'm taking)

I hardly sat at all this past winter, unlike the previous year where I think I figured out that I got over 14 on-the-road restarts.

Like last year I had one trainee complete 60k training miles this year, and one "aborted" trainee that didn't last longer than 2 weeks... Just like last year... So that much is a wash in contributing this years increases.

I haven't worked any more than last year. As of right now I've already
matched the total days off I took last year, and I figure I will probably take another 12 days off before 2011. So, ive spent a little less time on the road.

So I guess it boils down to better miles this year in addition to the 2 automatic pay raises I got when I hit those milage markers. Oh, and my truck magically jumping from mid to low 7mpg up to over 8 mpg back in July has helped me collect almost 4 cent per mile bonus.

Yes, is said magically, as no one can explain it in the shop... And nor do I want them to tinker to figure it out... I can just imagine them coming back with no rhyme or reason and yet still some how make it magically dissapear.

Congrats on you reaping the rewards of your hard work. I believe you mentioned you are a company driver? How many days do you stay out on the road, and how many days do you take off to recharge? Does Prime insist on that: 1-day-off-for-every-7 days-out-rule, or are they flexible?

Yes, 1 day off for every 7 out. 4 days off max in a row before you have to be back out. At least 3 weeks between home time.

Flexible, sometimes. You can negotiate an extra day sometimes, but you have to have that day on the books to use it. Also you are not likely to get that ectra day if you are negotiating on the 4 th day, or making excuses on why you can't come back out to work when you said you were. That stuff should have been negotiated before you go on home time.

Typical extra day, for me, involves a deal with me staying out over a holiday weekend that most people want off... In return I choose a different sometime and get an extra day.

My personal preference is to stay out 6 to 8 weeks. I've gone as short as 3 weeks.

Not to hijack the thread, but just to offer another perspective.

This is my first full calendar year as a solo company driver (as in, Jan - Dec....I actually went solo in June 2009). If absolutely nothing else changes from here to December, I'll gross $42,840 for the calendar year.

I typically stay out 3 to 6 weeks then take 4 days off. Really depends on my schedule. I'm just coming back out from homtime after only being away 3 weeks, but I won't be going home again until Thanksgiving which is about 6 weeks away. Then I'll go back home 3 weeks later for Christmas or maybe New Years...haven't decided yet and will be discussing it with my dispatcher tomorrow. Early in my career I'd stay out longer, but now, the absolute max I'll stay out before going home is 6 weeks. Even at 3 weeks, my dispatcher never complains and always gets me home on time.

Even though I'm not posting some outrageous salary claim, I know the haters will want "proof" blah blah blah. I'm not going to be scanning in any pay stubs, so you'll just have to take my word for it. I also plan on starting my own thread in January with some actual hard numbers for the year.

Still very happy here at Prime. Perfect? No. But I don't see myself going anywhere for a long time.

You have all talked me into leaving my home daily dedicated cake walk run with Werner and giving prime a shot. Been talking with Sheril as I live in Salt Lake so i will be attending orientation 10 minutes from where I live. Thank you all for the honest insight.
