Sysco, US Foods are probably you're start. There might be some others that are smaller I'm sure there are, but Sysco and US Foods are you're best bet off the rip. Maybe MBM or McLane there around too.

It should get you in. Given how those companies have a very high turn over rate.

It's hard for me to understand how these companies, that seem to pay very well, 65k+ a year have such a ridiculous turnover rate. I know it has been said, it's because they do not care about the employees etc. I do not yet have my CDL , and maybe that is where the disconnect is. But from the terrible retail jobs I have been manager of, I would take the ball busting physical work any day over that nightmare of my previous retail hell for that kind of pay. Unless these jobs that pay this much starting in the first year are just falling off the trees.
I know it's long grueling hours and not everyone likes that. I guess it's just more personal preference, OTR seems a bit easier physically, for almost the same pay but just not as much home time.Last edited: Jan 9, 2016

The thing about food and beverage is, it's like running around with a gun to you're head kind of. Beverage as someone who's been there and done that, doesn't pay as good as food. The beer company I previously worked for didn't have to many guys making $60K a year. Low $40's was more common. I left that company I good terms, but deep down personally I was not real hot for how the company went about it's business. It's to much to write on this forum.
I work for GFS and they are night and day difference then the beer company I worked for. I would never leave GFS to go back into beer/beverage delivery. Quite frankly I'm pretty much here to stay at GFS for the long haul for me they have been very good. So far this year to date I've already made $10-$15K more then I did making beer deliveries and the year for me on that end isn't quite over yet and hopefully and it may be doable not far off I could get closer to $20K a year over the beer company I worked for.
You know it's funny I was talking to a newer guy who started with us at GFS at our little yard a few months ago and he said to me "I don't know why you would leave here, there's to much money to be made." He's right to because they pay us a lot of quarterly extra's accuracy, fuel bonus, attendance, safety and what's called a "Thanks" which is literally them paying you a few bucks just saying thanks. I want to tell you something Christmas Day I did a transit/volume run that was an extra auxiliary run. They paid me very very well for working on Christmas Day the day's mission went very easy for the most part everything worked out very well and they paid me Christmas Day pay which is very good pay plus I still ran the route and got paid for that. Plus I was able to say yeah I've done it all.
What it is, is you have people saying why should I throw cases when I can go into the LTL field and make the same amount of money? However, every company is different in the way they operate at GFS we don't really do extra board stuff at Mains Food and Paper it's all extra board. The beer company I worked for when you were new you were on the swing drivers board and could be there for a little while. However that company was funny too, because they had guys who wanted to stay swings/extras and the company would force them to eventually take permanent routes. Now I know you're thinking why would you not want a permanent route? Well if you're a swing driver and you're covering mostly bulk routes then you're making good money, but if the permanent route is like what I did and you're in the side loader division which side loaders aren't that bad there's nothing wrong with them, but say you're on a route in a crappy neighborhood and you've gotten robbed once sometimes through fault of you're own and you have customers who are bouncing checks and trying to pass counterfeit money through to you, you're going to get tired of that scene and eventually quit.
Here you can read this thread it maybe of some help to you:

GFS sounds like a really solid company. I can see myself being very similar to you in that regard. If a company treats me well like that, I am a very loyal person and would want to keep working for them. If things are going well I am very happy where I am, and tend to not get "grass is greener" syndrome. I am really happy you enjoy it as much as you do, it gives me hope that I can find a company like that and make a career out of this!
Thanks again for all the time you take to write stuff like that on these forums, it is more of a help then you probably know to a prospect.Bob Dobalina and Mike2633 Thank this. -
