As a lease operator he is an INDEPENDENT contractor. If you owned your own truck it would be the same stipulations. It was a tough card to be dealt no doubt! However, when leasing with CRE, you DO get a maintenance account to which i am positive all the work and parts that were done on the truck were charged. I have years of experience with this company so I know EXACTLY what i am talking about. If you are a trainer, of course you are responsible for the student that YOU chose to keep with you on the truck. If you didnt want to "employ" (train) then run solo. Costs are the same if he were to be on hometime. He would be responsible for putting the student up in a hotel if the student so requested. Just a little insight on how it is, no hostility and I am very sorry to hear about his situation. A little advice....: If you are looking to be successful in the trucking industry, look for something dedicated! CR England has a Coca-Cola account in oregon that would probably provide him frequent home-time and would almost certainly guarantee a load every day worth 250-650 miles. If you are still interested in CRE, it is a way out. They may forgive the early lease break and consider him for that possible situation. It may be worth looking in to.. just sayin.

    I agree.
Really rotten if CRE told him there were no company positions but he could lease.
He obviously was not ready to pay repair expenses and cheap employees (trainees). That is all part of the business of owning your own truck and running freight.

guy24 - that Coca-Cola run you're talking about is one of the company jobs he applied for! He also applied for a few other company positions and was told they were filled. He flat out told CR England he did NOT want to lease! It was not until they had told him that there were no company positions available and that he would have to sit and wait for a company truck - that is when he agreed to go into a lease with them. He had been in school and then out on the road with them for over 2 full months with NO money to send home to his family. The little money that he did make was spent at the truck stops eating meals since neither of his trainers had their trucks set up with a microwave or fridge. He needed to get out on the road and make some money - and CR England knows this . . . telling their newbies there are no company jobs available and they would have to sit and wait with no pay is an excellent way to strong arm someone into a lease!

He knows all about the maintenance accounts, however, he had only had this truck for 8 days before it broke down and was going to cost him thousands to fix. In all of his years working, even successfully owning and operating his own business for 12 years, he has NEVER once gone in the negative! He hadn't been out on the road a full two weeks and was already in the hole with CR England.

Anyone who supports England's business practices...I'm sorry but supporting that type of crooked bait & switch bull is morally reprehensible .

guy24 - I would also like to address this comment that you made above -

"If you are a trainer, of course you are responsible for the student that YOU chose to keep with you on the truck. If you didnt want to "employ" (train) then run solo."

Not only did my husband NOT want to lease - he also did NOT want to do anything but solo driving, however, this was another one of those selling points to get him into a lease! Without working as a team or agreeing to sign up as a trainer, he would not make any money leasing due to the expenses involved in leasing. The only chance he had of making any money at all or even breaking even in a leased truck was to put a trainee in as a second seat so that the truck was always rolling, therefore, making the money needed to lease.

He was strong armed into a lease, it's just as simple as that!

As for him still being interested in working for CR England and calling them up to check on a company job . . . after his experience with this company, that will NEVER happen . . . not even when hell freezes over!
