Sorry guys very busy here this morning.

What it boils down to is numbers, and if the type work fits the individual. I've always maintained that this work isn't for everyone, and that a Independent Owner Operator wouldn't get rich but he could make a decent living. The fact is, making a decent living is all that most of us are looking for.

The best way I know how to explain what I mean is to talk about cost of living. When each person does his calculations on operating cost he also needs to include his paycheck. Percentage based, mileage based, whatever each person decides, His paycheck needs to cover his cost of living. Whatever is left after paying for everything equipment related is where the paycheck comes from. The big question is, just how much pay will this business support. Right?

What I offer with my business is a oppertunity to learn how to earn, what I think is a decent income in the trucking industry. Everyone has a right to their own opinion on that. I've done the math hundreds of times and I know theres not a lot of oppertunities where a start up business can net 55/60%. Is it a struggle to earn it sometimes? Absolutely.

If you have ever talked to me personally you know I'm the first person to tell you this can be a difficult career path. It was by pure accident I got started in dispatching. I was on a forum answering a few newbies questions who were struggling. A husband and wife had taken a loan against their home to buy a Dodge and trailer. They weren't making it, so I started giving them advice. They said they were applying the advice and noticed a positive difference in their business but they were so far in the hole they didn't think they could pull out of it quick enough. Thats when I offered to help, it's when my career as a Hotshot dispatcher began. I told them I had about two weeks of free time and I'd dispatch them for free right along with my brother in my truck. They jumped on the oppertunity and in two weeks time I helped them earn $16,700.00. That brought them out of the hole and gave them some breathing room. They were pleased with what I did for them and fedexed me a check for 10%. I wasn't expecting anything I was happy just to help them. I just felt like I was giving back because a lot of people had helped me in this business. What had me home for those two weeks was I had my semi's up for sell. They hadn't sold yet so I told them I'd keep helping them until they sold. My plan was to sell the big trucks and buy two more Dodges for me and my other brother to drive.

Long story shortened, his wife went back on that forum and typed out a big thank you for what I had done for them, and went on to post how much they had earned with me dispatching them. Apparently there were a lot of people out there in the same boat this couple was in because my phone lines were burning up from that point on. I kept telling callers the same thing, I'll help you until my semi's are sold and then I was going back on the road. Finally my semi's sold but with all these people counting on me I felt I couldn't abandon them. Money was coming in so I socked the money away from the semi's selling and continued helping. Wasn't long before I put a second and a third desk in and had my brothers helping. The real reason for the third desk was because of a artical written about hotshot trucking in Overdrive magazine. The person writing that artical, Todd Dills, called me wanting to ask some questions about the business. I told him I was busy but I'd give him the phone numbers to some of the Owner Operators I was dispatching. The artical title is Small Trucks Big Service, look it up if you haven't read it yet.

Still here today helping newbies earn as much money as possible. My business hasn't changed at all, it's still about helping. We take hundreds of calls a month from people just looking for information about the business and we answer their questions for free. We don't ask them if they want to use our dispatch service, they tend to ask us. When a person feels he doesn't need anymore help they move on. That Husband and wife, my first customers stayed with us for about 4 years. Some people stay weeks, months, some stay for years. This business has it's busy and slow spells, when it's slow people tend to stay a shorter amount of time. When it slows down most people's first thaught is the dispatcher is slipping because the income level drops. It doesn't matter who your dispatcher is, when work drops off every driver/owner op out there is gonna blame the dispatcher. lol. With many years experience prior to starting this business I already knew that would happen. ;)

Hey whats up Gary...Glad to see you finally came over here to defend yourself.

To everyone else I would just like to say that I did very well with Gary and Danny.
I was with them for about a yr and 3 months and my truck has been sitting in the drive now for about the same amount of time...Why ?
Because the people I worked for in the past begged me to come back with a huge pay increase dispatching.
I would like to also say that I have been in trucking for a long time and I think part of the problem is some folks come to Gary and they find out after its too late that they are just not cut out for trucking.
Why do I say this ? Because I met quite a few that were using Gary the same time I was and my thoughts were this guy is not gonna make it. I'm gonna leave it at that.
Lately I have been getting tired of sitting at my desk and I am seriously considering having M + H dispatch me again....Yes this is my first post on here and no I am not Gary .

Appreciate the kind words Greg. Anytime you're ready just let me know.

OilfieldMike, we do take posts made by people who have actually worked with us and try to learn from them. Where we can make improvements we do, and at the same time we stay focused on keeping the Owner Operators we're loading profitable. When your in this business as long as we have been, you either learn from your mistakes or you go under. ;)

I seen someone asking for dot numbers earlier in the thread so...
I thought I would post mine up just in case there was a need to see if I was legit.

I first saw it when someone posted it over on Gary's site awhile back talkin about how Gary was famous.
Then it came up in a search that I had been doing for Hotshot Trailer Info cause I've been looking into getting another trailer.
And yes I knew he deleted it..I don't blame him.
He's also deleted threads from things that I already sold.

I'd strip the MC # off the door of that truck. If a cargo thief wants your MC # at least make them have to search the internet to find it. I read an article on cargo theft one time where thieves would get an MC number off the side of a truck and then steal freight from an unsuspecting broker. If it's a brokerage your company is already set up with it's really easy to do.

Any broker that would give out a load on that number right now is not to bright since it is inactive because of the truck having garaged insurance on it.
