I know of at least 1 very happy L/O working at one of the biggest Megas in Canada.
He leased Macks, Columbias, Volvos and Peterbilts.
Over 25 years career and over 3 Million miles recognized safe driven miles .
He'll retire in about 5 years. 1 more truck to lease and he'll be done.
It was not a dream come true with all his trucks.
He almost choked on a horrible Columbia with a MBE 4000 engine.
    Making it as a L/O it's possible.
It's rare, but it happens. Have I mentioned it's rare?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again........
Mostly it's not necessarily about the trucks; as long as you run for a reputable carrier, (warrantees and whatnot)
It's not necessarily about the carrier; given that they are reputable.

My belief is that it's 99% of the driver.

Give me decent equipment. Give me decent loads, Give me a reasonable charge back. And I'll make it work.

Most of these haters of L/P are either:
A, someone who never did it. OR
B, someone who thought he was a big dog and took his eye off the prize.

I leased on to Schnieder and eventually bought my truck. Sold truck and bought another one and kept leasing on.
So, is the problem with the carriers or is the problem with you?

Jus sayin. It can be done and it ain't that hard.

I started out with a lease purchase ,
Make the monthly payment for two years and the rig is yours .

And at the time the company had plenty of freight and plenty of dedicated customers , I worked regional , 250 miles of their terminal .

I made good Money, I had no problems clearing $5k a month after all expenses , and home almost every night , and had no trouble paying off the truck in the two years , and by them I had saved up plenty to pay cash for a nicer rig .

about 6 or 7 years later the company started going downhill and they lost one of their biggest customers when a huge factory closed , and I saw the writing on the wall and left .
I sold my trucks and stumbled into another career with normal hours when I was home every night.
The company I leased on with is now out of business , but it was good while it lasted .

But I also was a decent handyman and was able to fix all the small things myself and my wife is an accountant so keeping an eye on the profit and loss statement every month was easy.

Blame? Blame? Blame? Am I hearing this right, there is blame to be assigned? For sending folks "into a tizzy"? Wouldn't have anything to do with CBD candles, or Inga on a trampoline, or the annual Wings and Gizzards dinner, would it? Or the fact that I still posess the photographs Mrs TB would love to see?

The favor of a reply is requested....

I mearly pointed out that your ability to read industry trends and tendencies assured our continuing success at - - - -&- - -. That, and your ability to deliver on our promises made us targets of naysayers and doubting Thomas's. Our success and notoriety was ultimately our downfall.

And that was a big mistake, keeping leasing on.
You had to continue on your own. As a business owner, I don't like to work with Schneider, so I can understand why you gave up on trucking.

Didn't give up on trucking, I'm in a truck right now making a delivery.
I gave up on leasing because:
    1. My wife put up with me being OTR for 10 years and I thought that was enough. Then,

    2. Someone offered to buy my truck out of the blue. Then,

    3. A local, home every day (usually), 5 day a week, .56 per mile, $10 an hour for all on duty time (I'm being paid as I type this), gig came up with Schneider.....

So, as I made my very last payment on my 2nd truck, I said to myself, "Now would be the time, Opus".

So, here I am. A lot of people make very bad assumptions based on their own bad experiences.

My bad, I was thinking your are done with trucking.

That local gig looks like $1200 per week, all
    city miles.

You know there's a difference between 150K and 75K miles OTR annually, right?

Just wondering how much did you cough up to
Schneider for these two leases. It has to be
    over 500K...
