My truck has a 09/'92 series 60 ddec II. Electronic engine controls, yet is exempt. 1999 is the cut off year..

As for California, one truck from your fleet can go once a year on a 3 day pass. I believe that is going away December of 2020..

Mid 90s 379 does not have a dash computer, all the sensors are hardwired. Gauges wont be too hard to get working. Throttle pedal may require a bit of fabrication.
As with all engine swaps, it will cost more and run into more issues then originally anticipated.
Re plumbing coolant, air, intake, exhaust and compressed air will take some time. Getting parts on big cams sometimes takes a few days as they are not readily stocked anymore.

Pretty sure it's illegal, unless it was a glider from the factory.

The way I understand it, when replacing a motor in a truck (except in a glider), you must use the emissions design of motor that the model year of the truck it is going into is.

For example, if you were going to put a motor in a 2007 truck, it would have to have a motor installed that met the 2007 emissions standards.

Those engines were great in there day sure. But why would you want to run one when there is so many better options now that will still be ELD exempt.

Run a engine that's 99 or older. 2ws,1lw.6ts,5ek cats . Or series 60 preferably 98/99 vintage so Ddec4. Or a N14 . More period specific for your peterbuilt and no smoke on cold morning starts with cruise control to boot. Honestly those old 855 mechanicals were great but they had there time Imho.

Not to mention if you HAD to hook up a ELD you can a lot easier with an electronic motor.

I want to run a Big Cam because it's mechanical and cheap to overhaul. That and I just have a sweet spot for them

Why not just buy a 95-99with an emodel cat. Great engines. I’ve been looking at a 98, Big house on back, 1.4 m 400k on OH.for $38k. They’re out there.

Not a fan of Cat personally. Great motors don't get me wrong, but I prefer an old mechanical Cummins

What about a 359 with 400 big cam? Got to be one out there. Common in the 80s
