Hello everyone I purchased a cabover yesterday to help with the local stuff because it has been a great pain to get in tight spaces around chicago and milwaukee with the W9 ever since i replaced the gear box last year but that's another story.

There are some little details that i need to take care of before i get this truck working. The fuel pump leaks from the shaft that goes to the accelerator, one of the lifting rams leaks, the injectors were put in January but i think either the rocker boxes are leaking or they didn't replace the gaskets when they put the new injectors. Truck ran great on the short 100 mile drive home and the previous owner had been running it Monday to Friday from Janesville to Davenport for the past 3 years. I would like to seek help on any improvements to make this engine run efficiently. I know i should look into the dual line fuel set up, I'm waiting to hear from a guy that has a brand new pump sitting around, my dad came to the shop this morning quickly and told me that it was a low flow cooling system and high pressure oil system and that i would be better off with the high flow if i ever decided to send the truck further out on the road. Anyone know a source fro fuel buttons i'm not planning on going crazy maybe a 12 and a stiffer spring and what turbo i should get when its time to upgrade, my dad said something about a changing out the manifold because this truck sounds different than my international cabover. Sorry for writing an essay i appreciate all the help thank you for reading

You might check and see what's in the pump now if you like how it runs. You can get the ram repaired or replace it with new. The rocker boxes stay on an NTC 400 during injector replacement. Dual fuel line would be good. I have some info on buttons etc but I'd have to look it up. Since it runs good now you have some time to collect good parts for cheap. Not sure about turbo, see pittsburg power, they did a nice buildup on a NTC 400 pushing 700 HP.

i think the pump hasn't been touched i'm really busy right now i haven't had chance to bring it in the shop because i been having to do maintenance on the trailers. My neighbor does a lot of work for case so he probably would know a local place that would be able to rebuild the ram. The jakes are painted green and look like they were replaced recently on an older freightliner we used to have i had the seals on the rocker boxes leaking so that's why i though maybe its the rocker boxes on this truck but i will have to wait til the weekend to pull it inside and take the ram off to send it to get rebuilt so i can get the cab tilted and start getting things taken care of.

If it has Jakes then they would come off for injectors, Jake studs (which also hold the rocker boxes) would get retorqued before the Jakes went back on. If you're going to pull the rocker boxes to replace gaskets it's best to reseal the rocker shafts. They commonly leak on the ends of the boxes. It takes an O-ring at each end of the rocker box. And while you're there, replace the O-rings on your fuel crossovers from head to head.

the after cooler is not a trapezoid so i believe its a big cam 4 the serial is 11472463 and cpl 1185. I honestly haven't really looked at it closely we picked it up on Tuesday came back to the shop and i been busy working on some maintenance on the trailers so i haven't had time to start working on it, only thing i managed to do is get the passengers lift ram so i can go drop it off on Tuesday so it can get repaired and so i can get the cab tilted.

I dont recall seeing any strange fancy oil lines around the pump so i think this is an NTC 400

I had a 1987 big cam 4 400 that I overhauled at 920,000. Put in Pittsburg Power pump and injectors that were flowed to match the pump.Very pleased with their service.Just had to open up exhaust and air intake and was good to go.Max 500hp on dyno..5.7mpg--I like that Cabover--

It's is a 400, but it does show that it has the STC injectors in it. I have heard some people talk about the 88NT series engines, I'm not sure what this is in regards too, but the engine you have is part of this series. It will be a good engine if you can keep it cool and the STC working right.

thank you SmokinCAT for now im just gonna replace the pump and have the ram rebuilt so i can jack up the cab and see if its the gaskets or something is loose that is causing the oil leak around the valve covers. The previous guy was running it everyday hauling reefer and a step deck from Janesville to Iowa for the past two years so I'm just gonna fix the little details and put it to work, I'm not planning on sending out for long runs but for now were just gonna be using it for some local work and gathering LTL to make a full load for one of the other trucks to deliver. Thank You for your help
