"CR England....... Which is an christian company.... I believe Mormon owned.....
And you better have that mind set to stay there .... They will get into your business and constantly harass you"

Better check your facts, Mormon is not Christian!! They deny the three basic tenants of Christianity: that is the deity of Jesus the Christ, Salivation is free, and the Authority of the Holy Scriptures!
I know this off subject, but I could not let this misinformation be passed on.

Boy-O Boy, I am worth $700 to a trucking company!! Now I can bribe them into hiring me as soon as I complete school. Maybe I should ask for a kick back!
    What does the thread think!!!:biggrin_2559:

First off, THANK YOU, Cactus Jack, Gashauler and everyone else who posted in this thread!!!!! Your experience is more than appreciated, it is vital!!!!
I have done the research, talked to drivers and other employees and the best opportunity for me is to attend Swift's school in Phx early next year. My career of 15 years has evaporated as many others have, I have no kids, I am divorced and I have no rent to pay nor any debt. So, I can afford to make less than the reported $30k to start, don't mid if I am on the road for weeks at a time and most importantly, I have no illusions of being "top dog" my first year - or 3rd year.

My only plan is to use Swift to earn my license, have employment while paying my dues, (i.e. repaying the school loan), hopefully learning new things every day, and then move on to better opportunities after my year is up (unless they make me an offer I can't refuse...stranger things have happened.)

I know that the best education is listening to others, getting your feet wet and by making mistakes. The smart ones are those who listen to their peers (and betters) and those who actually LEARN from those mistakes.

I am going into this eyes wide open and can't express my appreciation to those who have shared their own experiences and beliefs in this and other threads. They have opened my eyes and have given me fair warning. It just kills me the amount of biatching that goes on. Some is valid but I have to wonder if some of the others are the percentage of people that wouldn't be happy with ANY company. Having been on both sides of management, I have seen folks that feel they are the "cat's meow" and can't imagine why they get treated the same as everyone else. Even if they haven't paid any dues, had any experience or aren't the most valueable player on the team. It seems that there are some people who aren't happy....EVER.

I am going into this knowing that I will equal dog poop for a while and that's ok. I have an open mind and a strong heart so I plan to weather the storm of the first year.

As a matter of fact....I have only talked to the recruiter about how to apply to the school - we never spoke about the company or the "great benefits and pay". Having been in sales most of my career, I knew it would be best to find out for myself than to hear the "sales pitch". So again, Thanks to all on this site!

I hope to see you in the wind!

Hey cactusjack, not to be a nit-picker, but "an" is only requied after words starting with A,E,I,O U otherwise it's just "a" (like "a company, a CDL, etc ... not "an company"....etc.)
it makes reading you posts a mite confusing and I like your posts... very informative.

i wish you all of the best!
You have the right attitude and frame of mind for the job . I hope that you have the same attitude and desire after you get into trucking .
Remember stay with them until you have paid your schooling off and get at least one year of experience then you should be good to go any where you choose .

Don't jump into anything without doing some research first. You say you are new at this, so why don't you take a bit of time and look around these forums. You can get a LOT of questions answered, just by reading.

See if there is a community college in Washoe County that has a truck driving program. If so, talk to them and see if you may qualify for any type of financial assistance.

Look at our forums on driving schools, bad trucking companies etc. Keep in mind that just because a few people say a company is "bad" does not necessarily make it so.

Head down to the truck stop (casino:biggrin_255:) and talk to some of the drivers.

DO NOT BE CONNED into going into one of these hugely expensive schools!
