From what I can quickly search, Big G Express looks like a really nice company. But I am finding very little about driver trainer interaction or orientation. How long will a driver need to ride with a Big G trainer, and how long is orientation?
Me? I live less than 60-miles from Shelbyville, TN. facility. I have had my CDL since 1995, yet have not had a full time driving job since 2000. Since 2008 I have been pulling for a high school band, so I remain active in the commercial driving world.

Titan Transfer in Shelbyville has refresher course.
DRAGON64 Thanks this. -
Big G does not have trainers. They only hire experienced drivers. My wife and I both worked there for several years. I don't know whether your old experience would count or not (unlikely since it was 16 year ago), but your best source of info would be to call a recruiter. They're very nice ladies and will give it to you straight.DRAGON64 Thanks this.

I did pose the question to one of the ladies who initially replied to my first email request for information, but no reply as yet. Maybe I can get with a recruiter later today.
I may also inquire with Titan or other local companies about refresher training. -
Freymiller and Magnum Ltd. might hire and run you through their refresher. I'd try Titan first or apply to all 3 with the online application then follow with a phone call. This way when you call, they can pull up your application on their computer while talking to you; it saves lots of time this way.

My OTR experience stopped at the end of 2001. But I was a Crew Boss around big trucks of all kinds for a Auction house until I went blind in 2009. I hung up my CDL pernamently in 2013 when I resolved certain decisions for my future without fear of a literal federal case via the CDL and it's liabilities I was being given in life with the meds from the doctors. Surgery did save my sight and improved it, also possibly saving a future at all. Prior to it I was closing in on a method of life ending probably in either Swiss, Amsterdam or Oregon at the time due to the quality of life that was lost that year. But Im still here. So we will have none of that talk.
You yourself will likely be in a refresher course. It is a good thing to discover how thick you are rusted, to break it off and get you sorted right quick. I retained my skills for the most part, no worries there. However, the new comptuer in the truck and discovering new changes to what I considered captian of the ship and freedom in 2001 does not necessarily exist today.
And pay rolls have not increased in 16 years either. They offer the same exact .49 or so compared to 16 years ago. In fact I think they would offer less due to a dead sheet of all that time no experience versus 20 more years of proven experience that also vaporized when fly by night cheating companies evaoprated as well. Suddenly Im no more valuable than any old bright eyed bushy tailed student out of school.
I guess it's good that it's ashes to ashes, dust to dust.truckerman75103 and DRAGON64 Thank this. -
It is true, I have no experience with the electronic technology of today. I still maintain paper logs when I pull for the band... it is amazing how close they run me to the brink of my 14-hours. My driving skills remain strong, but I am sure that a company would have a warmer fuzzier feel if I would run a refresher course.
.49 seems doable, Big G is showing .36 starting out... but they have many many bonus options.
Nevertheless, I actually reside in North Alabama, just south of the Tennessee state line, so may look closer at Alabama companies too. That is until we move into the state of Tennessee...x1Heavy Thanks this. -
Well Neighbor Arkansas here. Howdy!
Don't count your 14 hours out that easily yet. Just last week I hammered out a learning that under our logs you can drive until 11 hours is up and then go to work in the trailer on the dock.
Here is the kicker. There is NO WHERE in the law that says you must quit after your third hour in the trailer at 14 hours today. You might have another 30 hours straight dealing with a really difficult load by hand Now you have two choices. Log the 30 hours onduty and burn up your 70 hours for the week stabbing yourself in the back or log it 15 minutes unloading preserving your 70 hours as much as possible even though just did 30 in that dock just now. You cannot drive again until you have had 10 hours in the sleeper or a 34 hour reset in a hotel room or in your sleeper.
You seem to be a special staff member involved in hauling shows, entertainers and bands etc. The less you have to talk about it the better you are. I will feel a touch of envy knowing the top equiptment is used and there are plenty of people around for a variety of reasons in that part of America, day and night. I met a few stars a time or two. We may even had some musicians show up in my work place to purchase gas like everyone else dressed the same way unrecognziable until they hand the credit card over. OMG! YO QWUIET! ok. awesome! signhere.DRAGON64 Thanks this. -
Call them on the phone.

Have spent the weekend researching Big G, Titan and Prime. Big G has my attention, and will get a call today or tomorrow. I'm pretty sure they will require more road experience, but will get a better feel after talking with them.
