Haha, they don't Merlin "The Magician" for nothing!
He pulled me over on I15 two years ago on Thanksgiving weekend. When I got out of the truck with a big smile on my face, he just laughed
I'm not a big fan of Merlin personally, but I absolutely respect his knowledge & wisdom. It runs deep.
MCS Officer Cole up around Shelby isn't quite as astute, but the mans grin never leaves his face, even while he writes your ticket.

Ha Ha Ha, so you have met ole Merlin. He was the first one to ever stop me. Disappointed him that I was 20 lbs under the legal weight on the trailer. He thought for sure he had me there. He lives in the same town I do so I see him often. Heck I even have his cell number and can call with any questions if I want to.

Magician is right, that guy can appear out of nowhere any place at any time. He does like to weigh the trucks. He pulled over two of our trucks on Wednesday. He has only given me one ticket and that was where I learned about the registered weight and the additional GVW works in Montana. You know, under on registered weight and over on an axle group, gotta have the additional GVW permit.

He has pulled me over 4 times in 2 years. Once was that first time and the other 3 were over length loads. First one was to check permits and the other two were to measure. For a big man that guy is fast with the tape. I drive a day cab and the permit book sits behind the passenger seat, by the time I grabbed the book and turned back to the mirror he was already half way down the load with the tape.

The other one I seem to deal with a lot is Hardcastle out of Billings but I also ran into him south of Ennis one time. I have dealt with him about 4 times also. Once in the barn in Laurel.

This is my mission for tomorrow. Moving this fire truck from Longview, TX to Texas City, TX. Nothing extraordinary, 28-1/2' bumper to bumper, 8 wide, 40,000 lbs., 10'9" tall before I put it on the deck. Only going to be overweight because of my empty truck & trailer weight being 50,120 lbs. Yes I plan on playing with the lights & siren some.

Could come up here and help run my short runs. 30 miles one way. Moved 3 D8's today in the snow and mud. Moving 4 tommorow then 5 more to another location at the end of week. My butt is already draging!
