Hammer, I notice a couple long sections of what appears to be aluminum frame rail on the neck. Any specific use or just something you always carry?

Have a buddy that does some amazing paint work. Everything from pinstripes to murals. Been thinking about getting him to do something in the Rat Fink genre on my doors.

You seem to be handy with a pencil as well.

If it is anything like we do, those are old aluminum truck frame rails and we use ours on the outriggers instead of wood.

I never got lucky enough to find frame rail long enough for that, 5' was usually all I could find & I saved those for paver ramps. I had to use 4x8s for O/R boards.

    cnsper Thanks this.

When one comes into our local scrap yard they bring it over to us and the shop strips the rails and then we take the rest of it back to them. We use them for paver ramps also.

I like to use aluminum frame rail pieces to put under cutting edges, especially on scrapers.

Ah, for those we use the little plates that come from the RR tracks. The ones that sit between the track and the tie that they drive the spikes through.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

Hey @truckdad & @cnsper those are my outrigger "planks". They aren't old truck frames, though that's a fantastic idea.
    They're just 10"W aluminum C-channel, they come in 16' lengths. I cut them to 11' & 5'.
I've had them for quite a few years. I bought them when I still had my tri-lowboy as I couldn't load 730 & 740 trucks without breaking the boards. The best part about them is that you can hook a 2" ratchet to them and run the strap thought the outriggers tying them on so they don't move when your loading. When I'm doing local work, I don't take them off between loads as I can run with them on under our annual permit, because they stay put tied on.
Another other thing I like about them is my outriggers are 12"W while the planks are 10", that allows me to drop a hook in and still tie down anywhere I want because I put them at the outside of the outriggers. I have found that feature alone to be worth the price of the planks.
