Actually it is 28 feet of deck space. The other 3 axle is 26'. Have to take that one tomorrow as the 28' one is going in the shop for annual inspections.

    Oxbow and truckdad Thank this.

Interesting, you're a better man than me I've always pulled a hydraulic detach I couldn't imagine breaking a mechanical apart 8 or 9 times a day. I've been around mechanicals before but never really pulled one much.

JD, a mechanical is not that bad. When I had my Murrays everything went over the back except grape harvesters, pavers, & compactors. This Cozad I pull now for this outfit I drive for is actually pretty quick, I can have the neck off & be out of the way in under 2 minutes. AND as a bonus, it keeps us old ducks in shape climbin in and out of the truck!!

Oxbow, IH Truck Guy, RGN and 2 others Thank this.

Do you have to get in and out more in a mechanical than a hudraulic?

It is mechanical now. We did have a hydraulic neck for it but it broke so the boss just dug this neck out of the weeds and kept on going. It's not that bad but now the plate that is supposed to be welded to the mouse trap pin is no longer welded. Another thing that is going to be fixed tomorrow. You have to have it lined up just right now to push the pin by hand through the neck so you can drop the neck to connect the dog bones.

the cool thing about my truck specifically is that when I take the neck off, I drop the air, pickup the neck and add the air back in to the suspension and the neck will rest on the ramps. Just one less thing to do such as sliding the 5th wheel or putting a block under the neck. Getting pretty fast at it now.
