    @truckdad. Many Thanks to you!!!!!

    Do you know if all the HD41 allis were powered by a vt1710? I know the HD31 had a KT, but those HD41 were something like 80 ton???

    I believe this custom-built sideboom is an HD41... carrying a CAT 594.

    This was a Calgary-based pipeline contractor that was known for being able to do stuff almost no one else was able to. They built a lot one-off equipment to get jobs done (some of it still in use today); such as, at the time, the world's largest and fastest trencher--the Polar Bear (when they finished it, in the shop, it was too large to get out the door. So one of the owners fired it up and dug a trench through the shop floor so they could drive it out). It now resides at the Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Museum at the Leduc #1 site at Devon, AB. They had several V-12 powered trucks too.

    They were a pretty wild 'n woolly place to work, but also very interesting and a great place to really expand your wings, so to speak. I never worked there, but two of my brothers did and my oldest brother is best friends with the son of one of the founders (two brothers; one a mechanical genius and the other a financial one--a match made in heaven). The son is the one I hauled a side-boom for many years ago as the first piece of equipment I hauled.
